Need help with building AR-15 in 22lr

Stick with the better mag adapter so that you can use Smith and Wesson 15-22 magazines. They have a stronger spring than the mad dog mags and in my opinion feed more reliable.

IF, you can locate them, Spikes Tactical ST-22 uppers are an excellent choice.

they are a 22lr dedicated upper, NOT a conversion kit.

If you are willing to pay a tiny but more, Nordic Components NC-22 upper is top notch for accuracy, not just an average plinker. Complete upper can be had for $400.

I've used most of the common 22lr uppers and in my experience, the Nordic has been the best for me. Mine has been incredibly accurate and runs excellent.

In my opinion either of those are superior to the budget priced cmmg, dpms types. After you factor in cost of included free float rail over plastic handguards, the additional price you pay for a premium product is minimal.

Both of those options are steel barrels, quality rails, and easily match feel of .223 upper. If you want a lighter weight option the taccom3g.com options are very reasonably priced.

I highly recommend a Beyer barrel. His barrels are lightweight and accurate as they come. He has alot of options, and short turn around time. They will work with the cmmg or taccom conversion bolts. The price really isn't bad for what you're getting either. My ar 22 is now the most accurate 22 I have. Most reliable as well

If you want my suggestion.....

Build a complete .223/5.56 rifle (specially in .223 wylde because it is the best ), then convert your .223 wylde into a .22lr rifle.

I think, after a 500rd box of .22lr, you will want to move to .223. But that's just me.

I have the ultra light weight. tack driver right out of the box. Plus Tim went out of his way to make sure I was happy. It can be a bit more then the OP wants to spend but watch he does run good sales every so often espically with the new year coming up. Usually has free shipping too.

Hey guys, New shooter and member here. This is a great place and am really enjoying myself so far.

So Im looking to get my first rifle Im interested in a AR-15 platform in 22LR.
I was just about set on getting myself a 15-22 MOE but the more I've read up
it seems like building a AR might be a better option as than Ill have a lower when
I decide its time to move up to .223, .556. Also does anyone know where I
could get the MOE version here in Cali?

Seems like it will cost me an arm and a leg to build an AR especially compared to
the 15-22 route which seems I could get one for around $500. So are their any
22LR builds that compare to that cost? Or am I stuck with having to spend near
a grand. Also could someone post links to the parts I would need to build a
dedicated 22lr. Im willing to spend around $700 if possible. Id even buy used
if that would cut costs.

And as far as legality issues here in Calif what are the dos and don't about
buying these parts. Lowers need to be stripped correct? And uppers are fine?
Sorry but Im still new to all this and so much info to take in. Appreciate any
help.

use this primarily for 2-gun competitions running against much lighter 10/22 rifles but I still keep in the top 50% and top 3rd from time to time.

My JP I initially bought as a 3-gun/2-gun trainer but with all the gear on it its not a light gun but it is accurate as all get go for a AR.22
