    Marlin Model 60 questions

I've lately developed quite a hankering for a Marlin Model 60, but before I buy I'd like to ask those of you that know these things ...

I'm a left handed shooter, and the Mod. 60 is a semi-automatic. The question is: when the casing is ejected, in which direction does it go? If it's anywhere towards the right rear it could be a problem, but if it depends on the ammunition, that would be helpful to know as well.

    Thanks in advance ...

All the ones I've seen throw nearly 90 deg to the right. You should have no problems with cases. I have none with a 795.

If you think about it, there is no reason for cases to eject to the rear. When the rearward moving case (attached by the extractor to the bolt face) hits the ejector, the left edge of the case head bounces off the ejector which sends the case spinning sideways out the ejection port.

My 14 year old son is a lefty and he loves his Marlin 60. No problems.

Not too picky with ammo, it loves Federal bulk and Blazers.

In case you need further confirmation. You will be fine.

Model 60s are nice little rifles. I prefer the older ones with last shot hold open, 18 round mag, 22 inch barrel These three features were only available at one time for about a five year period.

Around 1984 to 1990 Models. They were real Marlins then too.

I have three of the newer Model 60's. You will be fine. I shoot left handed as I am left eye dominant.

Im a left hand person and I do own a 60 myself. It shoots great and you don't have to worry about the casing hitting you. Since so much firearms are made for right hands shooter and very little made for us left hand shooter I tend to Adapt to it. Overall you'll be fine. great day buddy

My dad is a lefty and his go to squirrel popper is a model 60.

              Probably good to go.

If you've never shot a Marlin 60 before, I'd suggest renting it at local gun range to try it out first.

As a right handed shooter, I've never even contemplated that. I'll try shooting it left handed today and let you know.

Confirmed. Shot couple dozen. The shells extracted 90 degrees. None flew back in my face. You're good to go.

That's what mine is. Purchased in 1984 at Kmart when I was 18, my very first gun purchase. I recently changed the firing pin and extractors and it still shoots lights out!

Thanks guys; what I've read here has closed the sale.

(I especially thank "wordupmybrotha" for his hand's-on empirical confirmation of the rifle's ejection pattern. That's science in action ...)

You're welcome. Gave me a good excuse to take it to the range.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this already, but the Spee D loader is great. I load up at home so I can spend more time shooting instead of loading at the range. They come in various capacities.

I've owned Marlin Model 60's. I'm a big time shooter, so they did not hold up well for me. On the last one, I bought a rebuild kit from Brownells. It worked for a while. They really are not meant for high volume shooters.

Can you give us an idea what types of volumes your running? I have a feeling it's way more than I'll ever do lol.

Going to be upgrading my model 60 next week.
