Ruger MkIII Help

I disassembled my MkIII and put it back together wrong. The bolt will only go back a quarter of the way and the rear main spring will not open the all of the way so i am unable to disassemble it again. I think i did not get the hammer hang down thing properly seated in the rear main spring which makes the hammer stick up preventing disassembly. I have watched youtube videos on the problem and they say that i should beat the bolt or the muzzle with a vinyl hammer to get it to release. I have tried this quite a few times with no luck.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I am getting frustrated.

Flip the lever down, pull the trigger latch up. look up at where the pivot thing is. now make sure the little pin/lever in the gun is pointed away from the pistol, it needs to nest in the trigger latch. I hope this makes sense?

Mine used to frustrate me really bad! If you can get the mainspring apart, as Dino said, try again. Hold the pistol straight up & tuck the small (triangular) swinging part (on the pistol) into the notch on the front side of the mainspring. When you close the mainspring & it has tension on it, at near closed...you got it.

Pretty sure I did the same thing once or twice & finally got it first try now. I did buy a 2.50$ rubber mallet from Wmart.

You are correct on your assessment of the problem. You need to get the hammer to move forward, like it hitting the firing pin. To do this you will need to put the magazine in to disable the mag lock, and pull the trigger and shack the pistol up side down. This might get the hammer to move forward and allow you to remove the main spring.

Welcome to the Ruger's Mark I-III owners club. I wish there had been a youtube back in the 80's when I got my first Mark II. Watching the video makes a lot more sense than the written instructions. Just remember not to force anything.

i was going to get one too, but after taking it apart a million times, ya kinda get the hang of it. Lol. besides $$ can be spent on trigger, disconnect, or hammer bushing

when i first got my 22/45 Mark III I had the same issues, youtube helped me figure it out lol
