HK MP5 22LR worth it?

I think a more reliable, fun, cheap gun would be to tacticool out a 10/22. When it comes to rimfire it is hard for me to knock rotary magazines.
Looks like you have an AR-15 in your photo, you could also get a .22 conversion for reasonable prices. -
I see 22lr ammo here and there.....if I remember correctly, last week I could've bought 500 rounds for around $60+shipping from a gun store in San Diego. Not sure if that's a good deal for 22lr tho but that's a lot cheaper than when I buy my 223/556 and 7.62 ammo in bulk. But I agree it is pretty hard to find the ammo around these days.Originally posted by meeestirgs&w 15-22 <-i own one.
h&k (walther) 416-22
h&k (walther) mp5-22

but personally i wouldn't recommend a .22lr to anyone until .22lr ammo is readily available in bulk quantities at Wally World again at a fair market price.
if .22lr ammo doesn't make a full come back by the time i run out of .22lr ammo, i'm going to sell all of my .22lr guns.Last edited by caliboy; 05-24-2015, 1:29 PM.Comment

I've thought about the 22 conversion but I don't have enough knowledge on how to go about it......I haven't really had a chance to really look into it either tho. But I am the type of guy that doesn't mind adding a couple new toys to the stash.
oh, what do you mean by a rotary magazine?

The HK MP5/22 is an awesome weapon.
I've shot about 500 rounds through mine without 1 miss feed. This was one purchase I was really happy with once I got it to the range. But I've only used Federal ammo thus far, not sure how it runs with other stuff.

Now is the time to buy .22s. When ammo is plentiful, people will flock to them again as a cheaper alternative to center fire.
There is zero chance .22 will remain scarce forever.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. Some of my friends have them and really like them. I would poke around Youtube and see what's out there as far as conversions go. I've even seen some where it looked like all you needed to replace was the BCG and use a proprietary magazine.I've thought about the 22 conversion but I don't have enough knowledge on how to go about it......I haven't really had a chance to really look into it either tho. Ruger uses spring loaded rotary magazines in their rimfire rifles. So instead of feeding a vertical stack of cartridges up into the action the magazine spins each new cartridge into position. A lot of the reliability problems regarding rim fire auto-loaders is that the magazines wear down and they end up failing to property stack the cartridges so that the rims end up overlapping, making feeding more difficult.

I highly recommend it - I have about 1000 rounds through it now and it has to be one of the most reliable semi auto 22s available. Yes, even as reliable as the 10/22. There - I said it.Comment

i have one. i love it. eats anything, looks and feels really cool and high quality. i don't like that it is quit hefty though. i also special ordered a s&w 15-22 moe and on the same DROS a keltic su22. yes i love rimfire =) and i have tons of ammo =)WTB:

The HK is worth it, but you could also go with a 10/22, M&P 15-22, or just recently the Wallther HK G36. My 15-22 has a few thousand rds through her and eats anything like my 10/22. Just picked up a G36 last month and have over 1000 rds through mine and haven't had a problem with it yet.
There's plenty of 22lr ammo around and at least it will always be cheaper per round than everything else.

If the A5 is I don't see why the SD wouldn't be..so I'm going to say yes. Ammo Bros, has them for $499.

I own a H&K MP5 A5, M&P 15-22 and a Ruger 10-22. I really like my M&P and H&K more then my 10-22. But between my M&P and H&K I like them about the same. They have there ups and downs.
For the H&K it's really heavy for a .22. I only added rails and a sight. I also bought my H&K about 2 or 3 years ago. Back then it was really hard to get parts. Took about 2 months to get extra magazines, and about 6 months to get a solid stock to replace the retractable one (which I just kept the retractable on the gun because it's nicer).
Hope this helps.Comment

The SD (sound dampener) is considered a compensator and advertised as one which is why I ask. Wanna make sure before I order one. I'm leaning more towards the SD. Thanks for the link but the SD is out of stock. If the A5 is I don't see why the SD wouldn't be..so I'm going to say yes. Ammo Bros, has them for $499.

Upon further review, the SD is in their CA compliant section so GREEN LIGHT!! Now just gotta find a place that has em in stock!!Last edited by caliboy; 05-26-2015, 10:30 PM.Comment

I went to big 5 yesterday and checked it again, it does have some weight to it but not too bad. Been looking at the M&P's also. Nice rimfires!I own a H&K MP5 A5, M&P 15-22 and a Ruger 10-22.
