Actually, in the name of safety, and providing more information and data, I'm going to take on the risk and sacrifice by shooting all of my Golden Bullets, plus any more I can snag up online or at Walmart and reporting back to the forum. I really need to do my part to protect the public; my way of giving back.

Seriously, glad your ok. Pretty scary stuff. I have been shooting those gb's and actually like them too. I will look out for oob fire. Both my rugers like the gb's. I do get occasional flyers, but fun to shoot.

I think that RawHP has nailed this one. It sounds like the round was ignited when not fully in-battery. Happened to me once. I agree with the OP that Remington Goldens are very decent and satisfactory rounds.

GB chamber fine for me on everything except all of my 22lr firearms.

I've had more ftf with remington golden bullets than any. They are my better than nothing choice.

Rem golden bullets surprised the hell out of me shooting the tightest groups in both my rem597's & my ruger 22/45 now I'm always on the lookout for them.

Back before I amassed higher grade ammo the GB was my go to for my rimfires. Win and Fed just did not shoot as well. Now it's the only low level rounds that I have. I think I have about 1800 rounds of GB out of 21k+.
It did shoot some small groups for me but I don't shoot it very much at all anymore.

Glad you are OK. I have had the same thing out of my M4-22. Made me flinch since everything came out of the ejection port. Not a fun experience.

Wow, I'm surprised that it happened with CCI. Glad you figured out a way to keep it from happening. Have you checked the headspace on your bolt? That might affect your current light strike issue.

I've had the same thing happen - without the firing pin hitting the case. Happened in a dedicated 22 AR TacSol upper with a standard AR LPK.

My guess: round did not fully chamber (perhaps due to dirty chamber), but was in far enough to let the hammer fall when the trigger was pulled. When the hammer fell it hit the bolt with enough force to set the round off instead of just ramming the round home and then have the firing pin hit the case.

Solution - install a JP Enterprise reduced tension hammer spring, but now occasionally get misfires from weak strikes - perhaps because rounds don't always fully seat (dirty chamber? need stronger recoil spring?).

Over the years I have had a couple of those. Not really anything to worry about unless you are a left handed shooter.

...and mostly not even then (speaking from left handed experience) as long as you have a good pair of shooting glasses on, as you should.

If you have an OOB detonation, it doesn't matter if it's Rem or CCI or ANY other brand---they will all look pretty much like the pictures…
Had several with the old PMC Zappers (out of production now) in an AMT 10-22 clone---primer too sensitive?
Shooting/safety glasses ALWAYS a must!

Maybe the lesson is, 22 LR no big deal, but keep your chambers clean and inspect your ammo on any centerfire weapons that allow the hammer/striker to fall when not locked or fully in battery
