Question would a burris mtac be better than the primary arms 1-6 in terms of quality, cqb, and distances to 600 yards? I am wondering how good and rugged and good the glass is on the primary arms. The price is awesome for the primary arms but i always wonder if corners were cut.

What about the new swfa 1-4? If you can wait till the end of April you'll get a free mount with it. Only 399.

If you go to optics talk there's info. I have one and I like it. Got it on the black Friday sale. It's only my 2nd scope, so take what I say lightly since I don't know much about optics. To me it's really clear. I like the reticle, but I have a hard time seeing it when it's on. I'm also color blind, so I'm sure that doesn't help. From what I have read it's not daylight visible. On max I can see it when it's cloudy. Turrets are solid. Overall I like it a lot. And it has a lifetime warranty. Customer service is good too (called because I had questions).

Coming from the OPs budget of $500, I'd say that the MK6 is more than just a few coins.

This is why I stated, saved up. Meaning, save your money and buy once.

Not to get into a personal debate with you, but if the OP was planning on spending that kind of money on a scope, I'd wager we'd be having a very different discussion regarding high end 1-6x scopes in which the MK6 only be one of many scopes to consider.

                    At $500 get a Viper 1-4.

Find a good sale on one and you might even be able to score a decent mount in that price.

I think SuperSet asked the best question, scopes are a lot like lenses for DSLR cameras, they have a specific use and purpose. They don't do everything so you'll want to consider your application first before spending the money.

Take me for example, my AR-15 is mostly a range toy first and a distance backup to the 2 Benelli 12 gauge semi-auto shotguns as home defense firearm second. The range I go to, Los Altos, has a max shooting distance of 100 yards. Plus, my Windham Weaponry MPC CA has a 16" barrel and is not really a precision sub-MOA bolt action rifle. So for me, a 1-4x scope that holds zero is good enough. I don't need it to be super rugged or anything like that, heck, since the shooting lanes are covered, it hardly even get sunlight on it anyway.

I like this video on the topic of selecting a scope, it is very long but I find it informative:

Yep, pretty darn happy with mine.

Vortex Viper PST 1-4X & Burris P.E.P.R. mount and you're GTG.

With a mount it puts you slightly over your $500 budget, but not too bad.

Whichever one you go with, make sure the low end is a true 1X.

If you're looking for Sub $500, Vortex and PA will probably meet your criteria. You can also get a Leopold 1-4x for under $500.
