Primary Arms Microdot failure

On cheaper optics that use that same style of illumination knob (The majority of illuminated Chinese scopes/red dots), I like to do a bit of preventative maintenance to prevent the knob from falling off like the OP's. If you carefully disassemble the illumination knob, starting with the battery cover, you can pull out the electronics to get to the 4 small screws that hold the knob in place. Pull them one at a time and apply a small amount of lock-tight. Re-install and give it a few hours to cure, and you shouldn't have to worry about it falling off or coming loose.

the same can be said for any over seas 'cheap' optic. i've done this with one of my red dots that came off an airsoft gun and aside from a 'not so bright' red dot this thing has held zero like a champ. even off a UTG mount. once those screws are loctite'd they won't come loose again. Just a word of warning though...they are small screws so you'll need at least a jewelers size screw driver and a workspace where the screws won't go flying off the table. they're small!!!

Is that based on your personal extensive use of Primary Arms products?

I've had a bunch of their RDS and all worked fine.

A quick Google search comes up with a number of failed PA red dots but on each account PA has sent a replacement and provided the customer with excellent customer service. If I wasn't such a Tier 1 suburban paper puncher, I would have no issue owning a PA red dot. If it breaks, you pack up your stuff for the day and have PA send a replacement.

I have one of the older MD-10 and I believe that's the best model compared to the rest. Held up on all the big boys. Even my .308 AR's
