    Primary Arms Microdot failure

    UPDATED!

Happy to report back that I have received my replacement Primary Arms micro dot in record time! Sight broke on Sunday, reported it PA on Monday, and have myself a new (possibly newer model) microdot mounted and ready for sighting in on Tuesday!

You guys were spot on, excellent customer service! Thanks Marshall for taking care of this so quickly!

    ORIGINAL POST
At the range with my new AK today. It was a cease fire to change targets and I tried to turn the dot off. I noticed the intensity knob felt a little "spongy." Whatever, I keep shooting and about 20 rounds later the red dot starts turning off itself. I smack the side of my rifle and the thing turns back on. This continued on for the rest of the day. By the end of by shooting session the damn knob was hanging on by one screw as pictured.

Guess I got a dud... The rifle and red dot has seen less than 200 rounds. All the reviews I have seen for these things are pretty positive. Despite the knob falling off, it held it's zero the whole time.

Hopefully it is just an anomaly. I was planning on getting one in a couple of months.

        Duct tape!

Kidding. Did you shoot off an email to Primary Arms yet? If it isn't that old, they should step up and take care of you. Keep us up on what they say

I had a 1x6 7.62x39 and had some trouble... but I talked to the folks there and they took care of me and made it right. They do offer good conceptual products at a good value but likely have some challenges with quality control (made offshore). My 5.56 1x6 has held up to 200+ rounds so far without fail (although anything can happen) and I am liking it alot. Write them and I'm pretty sure they'll make it right for you.

Is that based on your personal extensive use of Primary Arms products?

I've had a bunch of their RDS and all worked fine.

I have had good luck with PA, Vortex, TRS-25, etc. However, I do understand that for some Tier 1 suburban paper punchers, nothing but a super high end optic will do. Especially given extreme conditions such as an indoor climate controlled 25 yard range, failure is not an option.

On cheaper optics that use that same style of illumination knob (The majority of illuminated Chinese scopes/red dots), I like to do a bit of preventative maintenance to prevent the knob from falling off like the OP's. If you carefully disassemble the illumination knob, starting with the battery cover, you can pull out the electronics to get to the 4 small screws that hold the knob in place. Pull them one at a time and apply a small amount of lock-tight. Re-install and give it a few hours to cure, and you shouldn't have to worry about it falling off or coming loose.

That's very odd. I keep hearing about the high manufacturing tolerances they adhere to in the Chinese death plants.

That's the beauty. I am sure you can send it back and just get a new one...can't cost more than a few bucks to manufacture.

WTF is that substance under the knob? Is the knob glued to the sight or is that grease?

Call or e-mail PA!!I'll bet they'll replace it with no issue. You might consider Truglo products. I use them and no bad issues so far with a reasonable price.

What do you expect from an $80 optic?
