There is nothing under $150 you'll WANT, because NONE of it will last. You'll be OUT $150, and then another $300 on TOP of it, to buy a decent USED Aimpoint, EOTech, or Trijicon.

Pinch... your... PENNIES. You'll thank us who speak from experience in the long run.

It's been a month since the OP last replied in this thread so most likely he's already bought something.

        budget red dots

If you on a budget like I am then look into Tru-Glo products. They've been holding up well for the price and am very happy with what I have.

The best source for these would be Optics Planet.

still here!, unfortunately I have not purchased anything yet. I got side tracked with handguns so the AR has been put on hold for a bit, but definitely still deciding. I was gonna just settle for a trs-25 with high mount

Here's your TRS-25 with Hi-Rise Mount - probably never buy it for less $

                TheOrginal,

The TRS-25 red dot with high mount is a good choice for you. I like to try different red dots myself assuming it's with in my budget. So far Tru-Glo has been doing fine. Consider one in your future.

                    TheOriginal,

If you get the one you had chosen you will need rear sights. The unit itself is a pretty small compact red dot and depending on how forward you like the red dot in front of you there's plenty of room for a nice rear.

If you want the Tru-Glo then mine is basically in the form of a tube and requires a riser to get more off the platform to better see the dor for my comfort.

I have one knock off version that slightly different but basically the same unit. I believe I bought that version from Primary about three or four year ago.

What exactly do you mean by the above? The TRS-25 does not require back up iron sights in order to use it. If you want to co-witness thru the unit, then yes, you would need front/rear iron sights and an appropriate height riser for the TRS-35 to enable either lower 1/3 or absolute co-witness - am I not correct?

I only recently purchased my 1st RDS, an Aimpoint PRO with the QRP-2 mount for my flattop AR and it co-witnesses nearly absolute with my Magpul MBUS Pro back up iron sights.

                        Warthog,

You are correct. He doesn't require anything more in order to use the red dot BUT it he wanted back ups then a rear sight will complete that end of his project.

I too use Magpuls as they are quality in price and like you said the TRS-35 with riser will co-witness.

I myself am looking into getting another red dot for my current build. I'm betting into getting another Tru-Glo but will consider another brand if it fancies my arsenal of different red dots.

You meant the TRS-25, right? Don't want the OP getting confused.

SigTac Mini Red Dot for $119.

I own a Bushnell TRS-25, but I prefer the Sig because the LED refractor/optical collimator inside the Sig is not visible inside the housing/scope of the optic. When looking through the TRS-25 it is a little distracting and makes the optic appear sightly blocked. The Sig's shows it well hidden within the housing.

When inspecting both optics, the front lens of the TRS-25 is canted, albeit on purpose, however it is not only canted vertically, but slightly horizontally- and considerably uneven. The Sig's is even.

If you get the Bushnell, I recommend not getting the package with the included no-name hi-rise mount because it is garbage. On a standard 1913 rail, the clamp on the bottom is shaped in such a way that it mounts the optic canted. Looking closely, it mounts the optic like the leaning tower of pisa, when it should be straight vertical. So like i said, I'd recommend getting a quality hi-rise mount. Sig does not include a hi-rise, but under the housing it looks to have the same mounting characteristics as an Aimpoint H/T-1, unlike the Bushnell.

The Sig's construction is visually and physically more appealing.

With all that said, the TRS-25 holds it's zero, and I have had no issues with it.

The SigTac Mini Red Dot includes a honeycomb glare hider, and is also NV compatible (if you're into that secret squirrel stuff). I'm sure there are some other pros and cons I can't recall, but overall I think I hit the points.
