    Leupold VXR Scout

I'm thinking about purchasing the Leupold VXR Scout 1.5-5x33 and was seeing if anyone has had any experience with it? It's a relatively new optic and I can't find a lot of information about it. Also, the eye relief is listed as only 8". Is that enough for a scout mount? Thanks!

I have the VX-R Patrol and love it. It's nice and crisp and bright.

I guess it depends what your intended purpose is. Hunting? Tacti-cool shooting? Zombies? etc etc.

I'm also curious and am in the market for 1x scope.

Mainly for boar hunting but the tactical application might be a bonus

Based on my research a 1.5x4 or x5 or a 2x7 is the way to go.

If you want a scope for boar get the Leupold VXR hog. I have one. Its a 1.25x-4x. It has the pigplex reticule. The scope is super clear and has a small red dot in the middle. Your range will be good out to about 300 yards although you can get it out farther but I would say 300 is about the max. My set up is a tack driver out to about 200 much more than that and my groups will open up but I really love the scope.

I have a scout rifle. Hence the need for a scout scope. Otherwise the hog would be a good option.

What rifle are you planning to use with the scout scope?
I'm sure the 8" eye relief is not absolute, you have some wiggle room.

Throwing it on an M1A Scout. Should be a fun scope and honestly I like the iron sights but for an ethical hunt and a round that easily performs at 500yds it only makes sense to have a decent scope. I have a Nikon that I love on my Remington 700 but wanted something illuminated for low light dawn/dusk situations. If there are any other scout scope suggestions that fit the bill feel free to throw in your two cents. Thanks for the tips so far everybody

I currently run and would recommend the Burris 2-7x32 Scout Scope, which I have on my M1A Scout. The glass is more than adequate, it holds zero, and has good magnification.

I've heard great things about the Burris but the only issue is that it does not have any illumination option and I want the ability to hunt in low light environments. I don't have the best eyes in the world and think it will help tremendously.

Reticle illumination is highly overrated. If it's dark enough to need it, it may be dark enough to not really see your target and turning it on may wash-out your entire sight picture. Just the way I see it. YMMV.

Good point. I guess I'll hop on some more research about it. I just know that the VX-R series only has the dot at exact center of the reticle illuminated for focus and so it doesn't make the whole reticle so bright you can't see. I guess I could just try it out and see? I wouldn't be so iffy about it if it wasn't a $600 optic ha
