I have a Nikon M-223 2-8x32 that's reasonable. It weighs less than my Bushnell 1-4x Throwdown. Haven't had a chance to shoot either one yet though, that'll happen next weekend.

I initially was looking hard at the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. Stumbled onto the Burris rebate deal and started comparing specs and user reviews. The Redfield 2-7 is only 1.2" shorter and 1.9oz lighter than the Burris 3-9. IMO, the Burris Ballistic Plex Reticule is far more useful and less cluttered than the Redfield Accu-Range Reticule.
My intended use mirrors the OP of this thread - I ordered the Burris 3-9 for the increased light transmission of the 40mm objective and the additional magnification. For $103, if I don't like it, I'm sure it won't be a problem to get all or most of my $ back.Last edited by WartHog; 10-10-2014, 8:16 PM.Originally posted by Sierra57Civil War 2.0 - If it comes to pass, the America-hating Leftists will have brought it upon themselves. If you do not mind waiting a few weeks for it to arrive...
Palmetto State Armory currently has the Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24mm BDC Riflescope and Burris PEPR Mount on sale for $199.97.

That's the lower end Bushnell, it's SFP and not illuminated. If you buy the combo with the Freedom Arms 16" upper, for $420, you'll likely get the illuminated FFP model with the throwdown lever.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERA real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. Forgot to say the mount I went with is the Leupold Mark 2 IMS 1" one-piece mount. Got it from GrabaGun for $80.57 shipped.

The P223 is better than most people give it credit for. I have a 3x and a 3-9. They are really bright and really consistent. The warranty is hard to beat too. At 3x it's hard to miss anything. I think it's a better scope than my Vortex Crossfire II in 2-7x.Comment

Less than 300 yards? Used Aimpoint Comp M-ML II. For $100 more, you'll have an optic that won't crap the bed on your first shot, and will last as long as your rifle! PINCH MORE PENNIES!!!

Are you willing to stretch the budget a bit?
If so, there are a few Leupolds floating around eBay, last I checked they were going for $175 new.
The 3-9 ProStaff has excellent glass
I believe the Vortex Crossfire is also in your price range, assuming you buy on eBay.Comment

Yup, you get what you paid for. Someone I know, used to buy nice rifles, but buy $100 scopes and wonder why it won't hold zero(I told him to stop being cheap). After a lot of trial and errors and wasted money, he decided to spend the money on better scopes.Comment
