First off, where did AR come from? I said in my OP SCAR 17. And that was including 2k rounds of .308. I meant over 8k to get set up for comfort with it. Here's a rough estimate plan in order of importance...

I'm only on step 3 haha..

Pterrel who said $20 grip? Grip pod is around $100. And why? I already stated, to save weight and less bulk.

#10 is way, way down the line, and clearly buying an ATPIAL without NVG is pointless, so that would cost more two. This was just my ideal rough draft of the end result.

Not garbage at all. Very durable. I wanted to test if it was true if you can stand on it and yes. I stood on my AR with the grip pod and it didn't break lol.

Alright well IMHO, foregrips are not worth it unless you're shooting full auto. Even shooting rapid semi-auto you're more accurate with your arm fully extended on the hand guard. A grip pod is really designed with the idea of an M16 or M4 shooting a burst or full auto so the shooter can control muzzle climb better.

If this is your "combat weapon" don't get either. Get a solid optic and train with it. Lasers, grips, NV are all really cool, up until you hit mile 5 with all that crap and start thinking about what you can get rid of because your whole pack is too damn heavy. My "combat weapon" is an AR with an 18in barrel with irons and a bayonet to go with it. K.I.S.S.

Um, what's ironic? The only thing even slightly ironic there would be the last one, which I said, would be way down the line, if at all. I could spend that money on something a lot more useful that something i'll never use but would love to have.

Which was my point with the grip pod, to cut back on weight. I can live out of a pack for 3 weeks most of you would consider a 72 hour pack. My base weight will far outweigh a grip. Get a solid optic and train with it? Perhaps you didn't read the list. ACOG and 1k rounds to break it in.

As far as the "laser and NVG" I already said, way down the line. That would be a fun toy that i'd love to own but have no real use for. No one said i'm trucking 5 miles somewhere anyway, and if I was that I had to take it?

That you plan to have an $8k+ "home defense / combat" rifle but imply that people with plate carriers do so because its "like totally cool to play cop/soldier". I find that ironic.

I'm sorry, maybe you sure reread what you just quoted from me. I asked a question of why, out of genuine curiosity, I did not accuse, or imply that was the reason. I asked WHY people have them. To which people replied their reasoning, a lot of good ones, which answered my question. And if you care to investigate further in to that, I went on to explain even when I was in combat, I PERSONALLY given the choice would have probably opted for a different option that being forced to wear one.

I'd love to see you carry three weeks worth of water in a 72 hour pack along with your food, ammo and changes of socks. Unless you're in an area where you can guarantee that you'll find water, you're going to want a full pack if you're heading out.

Look, I'm not trying to bash you for wanting a cool rifle. There is nothing wrong with having a tricked out tactical rifle with all the bells and whistles. I'm trying to tell you that if you're wanting a combat rifle that all the extra crap you're trying to add to it is worthless. Having cool toys to show off is cool and all but at the end of the day, there is no reason for it. Learn how to use your rifle as it was designed. You'll thank yourself for that if the time comes where you have to actually use it in combat.

I know my AO and even in a drought water is not as hard as you think. I carry a couple ounce sawyer mini and bandana for filthy water. There is almost always water available, even if normally undrinkable. Dehydrated meals. Wait. No. I'm not explaining ultralite travel, but if you want to know how feel free to google thru hiking. John muir trail, PCT, etc.

You're preaching to the choir as far as tactical in needed crap. Your last statement was on point. If you'd like to offer specific items that you think make it "tricked out" and are unneeded, or out of order please go for it. I can explain why I put them in that order. I just wanted a solid reliable rifle to train on, and a couple thousand rounds

Can't find edit button on mobile- also I said live out of said bag, not carry 100 pounds of weapon related items.

Live out of it that long, and without a change of socks. And that's not me pulling an idea out of my ***, as I said, look into UL hiking more if you're curious. My first time hiking the John Muir Trail I brought an extra pair of socks. Never used them.

You clearly imply that there are only 2 reasons in your mind for owning a plate carrier.....1. End of the world crazy prepper thing, 2. Because its like totally cool to play cop/soldier.

The only reason I am giving you crap about that statement is because it sounds exactly like something an ANTI would say. Allow me to edit your quote, every so slightly, to prove a point.

Lol...because I didn't understand the concept and used two scenarios that popped in to my head I thought people might have them for (and sure a few people have them for) those are the only reasons? Perhaps I should have added, "or why?" I didn't think i'd be drug out under a microscope and scrutinized for asking a question, especially days later, in a separate thread.

Are you that afraid of a statement that resembles an "anti" you have to analyze it that much? Don't over think it.

With your post count and a goofy question / thread like that I figured you were a Anti shill. You seriously can't figure out why a civilian would want body armor? So you have to post a thread asking why a civilian would want one? And then you make another goofy thread about wanting a grip pod on your $8k home defense rifle.

Goofy question? No, because in my experience in combat, there were many times I would have preferred not having to wear it. A civilian fleeing for their life, militia fighting, whatever. I just wanted to know why people PERSONALLY would buy it. Why did THAT INDIVIDUAL choose to buy it. How hard is that for you to understand? I wanted opinions from people. And now you are throwing back the 8k home defense rifle when I have clearly stated that breakdown of cost. That is not the rifle. That is the rifle with a couple thousand rounds, and a 1,500 dollar toy at the end I don't need. So if you're going to continue this, at least please stop calling it an 8,000 rifle? I shouldn't have said that.

WTF does my post count have to do with anything? Is that your gauge on the internet of someones knowledge, experience...what..?

This was supposed to be a thread asking for more personal opinions on a product, not this off topic crap. If you'd like I can start a thread along the lines of criticizing my choices on a rifle, accessories, and questions, but this one was not for that.
