Looking for first red dot and dont know squat!

As if looking for just the sight isnt confusing enough, lets throw mounts on top of that as well!

I am looking for something that wont break the bank and will help my blind *** get on target a bit better. I have searched and read and am still pretty lost.

I have read enough about Primary Arms to be convinced they are a good company, I have been eyeballing this bundled packaged...

And will be mounting it on this...

Does anybody have experience with this sight? Will the mount it comes with work well? I have a very basic understanding of absolute witness and 1/3 witness. I definitely need some guidance.

I am totally open to suggestion, I would like to stay around $200 bucks, give or take a few, for sight and mount if I can. I am not only new to the red dot, that is my first AR and build pictured.

Burris Fast Fire 3 has been coming up a lot too.

Whichever one you end up getting, move your rear sight back about 3 slots.

I already did (2), that was before I ever shot it. Told you I was new!

you can get a Bushnell TRS-25 with the UTG riser for right under/around $100, and even cheaper if you look for deals.
i have the TRS25 on my 12 guage shotty as well as on my AR and they both hold zero perfectly. IMO, Bushnell is a better brand than PA, but to each his own.
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.
AR's have finally become full blown "men's barbie dolls" now with fashion accessories.

Cant really say I prefer one over the other, the Bushnell looks pretty good for the dough. I can spend a bit more than $100, I am just having a hard time justifying a $500 sight on an $800 rifle.

I am going to buy another AR, but that may be a year off.

Just a FYI its been covered before we use the same factory and same specs as Bushnell. We actually have much higher end versions that are 1000 hrs and nitro purged.

OP this might fit the bill. AD mounts are Gtg and so are the micros.

Spend an extra $150 and get a Aimpoint PRO. I've used a red dot from Vortex and Bushnell they both worked fine but the Aimpoint is worth the extra cash IMO.

Ask people you know to look at their optics.

I cannot stand the flickering of the eotech sight.

I am in the minority but I don't care for their design.

For high end- Acog or aimpoint.

For your first one- primary arms. Decent price - good resale value if you want to go with the durable / expensive dots.

So, you think that bushnell is a "better brand" and then you recommend a UTG (airsoft) mount over a Bobro?!?!?!? RIGHT.....

You're likely going to get better battery life from the PA (Yes, I know it's 1k hours vs 3k hours, but that's @medium brightness versus "up to 3k hours" [minimum brightness]).

You also will get superior customer service, though the Bushnell does have 2-yr vs 1-yr warranty.

Cant really say I prefer one over the other, the Bushnell looks pretty good for the dough. I can spend a bit more than $100, I am just having a hard time justifying a $500 sight on an $800 rifle.
What you are paying for, largely, is battery life, brand name, durability, and did I mention battery life? When you get into magnified optics, especially variable FFP glass, you are paying for optical clarity, field of view, eye relief, and the like, but in a red dot, it's mostly the battery life. Some people like the idea of keeping the sight turned on for 5-8 YEARS at medium brightness WITHOUT changing the battery. That's worth $500 to a lot of folks.

Me? I already have an ACOG, but I'm mostly going to be buying PA optics for the foreseeable future. Certainly for red dots.

                    well, lets see here;
-Bushnell has been in the optics business for quite some time and they have a proven track record of quality optics.
-the UTG riser that comes with the TRS25 is solid aluminum and actually very well made.
-and their CS is top notch.

is it something that i would take to war if i was a soldier?...definitely NO. but for a sub $100 optic, you arent gonna get much better.

as for PA, from my understanding they are a great brand of optics as well.

I've had the PA micro for quite a while now. For $100.00 or whatever it was I paid for it 2-3 years ago, it's simply been unbeatable at it's price point. It holds zero and I feel like I could probably drop it on concrete 10 times with no functional damage. It's nowhere near as refined as an Aimpoint Micro (which I also have) but at the of the day it'll get the bullets where they need to go. I suspect in some kind of torture test the PA would likely fail way before the Aimpoint but if you're just punching paper recreationally it really doesn't matter that much.

And that somehow makes it better than a bobro? (other than price, which I grant you, but it's apples to oranges) Bobro is probably the best QD lever design out there right now, and UTG is what, thumbscrew? Hex wrench?

I'm not saying the bushnell optic is trash. I just couldn't get over you speaking of UTG and quality in the same sentence when comparing it to a bobro mount. I've got a couple of UTG products myself (holding up a crappy BSA R/B/G dot, no less), but it's not even in the same ballpark in terms of quality and function.

For the money, though, the PA optic is the better deal in terms of battery life, durability, and overall quality.

Why do you keep mentioning Bobro???
border.bandito never said anything about their mounts, he compared the PA brand to Bushnell and gave his experience with his red dot.

Unless I've missed something, Primary Arms isn't giving away a free $100 Bobro mount with their $100 red dot, they are charging full price for both items in their "$200 package deal." Honestly, recommending a $100+ qd mount for a cheap red dot is laughable.

OP, I have had a Bushnell TRS25 for years and it's been fantastic. I paid less than $80 and tossed it on a $10 0.83" riser to make it co witness with flip up sights. It has never lost zero, battery does not drain when powered off, and it has taken significant dust, water, and been tossed around without a hiccup. Oh and the cheap mount has not come loose or shifted either.

Disclosure: No experience with Primary Arms OR Bobro and I'm not making a comparison to them.

Another vote for the Bushnell TRS-25 with UTG riser. Terrific little RDS. Fantastic value. Easy to zero, fun to use. Makes me look good at 50 and 100 yds.

The OP linked to that combo as what he was looking to buy. Then someone recommends the UTG over it in the same breath as the word "quality." That really doesn't make you blink?

I personally would recommend the ADM mount combo for this application. It offers QD, and will hold zero better than a cheap QD mount. If QD isn't called for, then the PA thumbscrew riser mount will get you to 1/3 cw, and you can be done with it for $119.

Also, the bundle is $20 off the mount, not full price. Certainly not free, I'll grant you.
