+1 on turning down the brightness. in the pic, that is much too bright.

also, don't FOCUS on the reticle. look at your target, two eyes open. if you're noticing the pixels on the reticle, you aren't using the sight correctly.

Just go to a local indoor range and look through it at a target 25 yards away. I'm pretty sure it won't look fuzzy then.

Your Eotech is legit. Its 100% the way your eye perceives the reticle (astigmatism), or you are trying to focus on the reticle itself rather than your target.

If you have bad eyes like me, it's much easier to run a single dot, less clutter/confusion, better clarity, etc - I run an Aimpoint T1 and it's fantastic.

Yup. They aren't meant for something 5 inches in front of it. Look at something across the room with it just a couple yards away and it'll look better. Also, the brightness of it in that picture as already mentioned, is way too high(eotechs and red dots will "bloom" when the brightness is too high, making the reticle messy, among other things).

Even with astigmatism, I noticed that the fuzzy reticle isn't as pronounced outside in bright sunlight. It's only noticeable when I'm looking at the reticle indoors or during night time. So it may not be an issue for you when you're at the range.

Also, having a magnifier behind the Eotech seems to focus the reticle a lot.

Like others have said, it could simply be your eyes. However, most likely you are just cranking the dial up too high. They all start to "starburst" when you have the setting full bore. Based on the picture...way...way....way too high of a setting!

Got any experience at all with photography or film? Think of it like a camera light. If you have it too high everything starts to wash out. So you need to dial it back so it is just bright enough for the current light conditions and no more. Same principle applies to red dots.

You want it about two to three clicks past the point where it first becomes visible in your current lighting, no more. You need to be able to pick it up with your eyes easily, but not be so over powering that it is all you see. Otherwise it will begin to starburst and be so obnoxious and makes it hard to see the target you're cover it with.

This is a typical new (to red dots) guy mistake. We've all learned the hard way. Welcome to the club.

All that said, it is never going to be a perfectly solid circle like the drawing on the box. There will always be a slight fuzz to it. Same with any red dot, you just notice it more because there is a more distinctive pattern here and not just a dot. You're looking at an image created by a laser...not an etching in glass. That's what they look like in real life. You are going to need to find the perfect balance between enough brightness to pick it up, and low enough power that it doesn't fuzz so much it obscures the target. Same with any other red dot.

I've had lasik surgery and have astigmatism. Which means these things starburst a lot quicker for me than others. I still get them working perfectly. So can you. Just takes a little trial and error with the different settings. Be prepared to adjust it as light conditions change.

                  Turn the intensity down.

Hmm it's interesting... my old Eotech 516, when i focused on the target, the fuzzy dotted circle became perfectly smooth... with a 3x magnifier it was a perfectly smooth circle...

My EXPS2 is a fuzzy circle and stays a fuzzy circle no matter what i do... i mean it gets sharper when i focus on target, but it's nothing like my 516.

They were both purchased from very reputable dealers so I know they are authentic.

                    I wonder why the difference.

as others have mentioned, look 'thru' the eotech reticle and focus on just the target.. the reticle should be crystal clear when you don't focus on the reticle itself.

i also have astigmatism and lasik... and i've never had problems w/the eotech hologram. however, the aimpoint t1's red dot laser is just a red blur to me, so i ended up selling it.

It's not always an astigmatism. Just keep both eyes open and focus on the target. Should solve the issue for you.

If you have astigmatism, it will appear less blurry outside because your pupils will constrict to let less light in.

My Aimpoints look pretty bad indoors. Outdoors they look good. Not perfect. Just good.

It is not the sights. Getting old sucks.

Like some here, I have astigmatism and I use an eotech on my rifle.

If your eotech is mounted for perfect cowitness with your BUIS, to improve the sharpness of the reticle, you can leave your rear sight up and look through using the smaller circle of the sight. Works for me.
