Just throwing it out there, I have an excellent set of Seekins 35 mm rings that should work with an AR set up to sell. PM me if interested.

The Vortex Razor 5-20 will not disappoint. I liked mine very much.

I own a DDM4V7 as well. Although it is an excellent rifle I wouldn't consider it a long range precision weapon. 600 yards is doable but you are giving up alot of velocity with a 16 inch barrel. Which is probably why most put 1-4 scopes or aimpoint/eotechs on top.

In the end it is your money but I wouldn't spend $2000 on a scope for a $1400 rifle.

If long range is your game consider upgrading your hardware.

Dang, and I saved you a hunnert bucks and got you free rings.

The Razor will do just fine, but it's Japanese glass, good, but not the best.

I shoot my 556 AR all the time at very long distances.
I run Hornaday Amax 80 grainers with BLC-2 powder, and sometimes Berger 90 grainers or SMK 77s....depends on how I feel when sitting down to load em up.
I use a Swarovski 6-18x50 scope with the awesome BRX reticle.

I do have a 24" Lilja heavy bull barrel with a custom chamber tho...
At 800 I can easily keep all shots fired on a paper plate.....in heavy (25+) wind.

All US Marines have to qualify at 500 meters with open sights and a lowly little 5.56.
Nah...it can't possibly do that can it ?

I was going to recommend the same, I really like my ior on my m1a, it is a great piece of glass and has a lot of features at the price point.

The 5.56/.223 is an intermediate round. It's too light for the long range that I'm sure you're hoping to shoot. Stick with a 4x scope. Just my .02
                Agreed 100%

Geez a 2k scope? I would spend 2k and buy a remington 700 in .308, new stock, bipod, and a 600-1k scope and take that baby to 600-1k yards

But for your AR, i would go with something less expensive that will still help you reach pretty impressive distances. I would look at the primary arms 1-6x variable ACSS scope for under $300. Just have to keep an eye out for when they are in stock, they sell out within an HR as everyone jumps on these from all over the country.

For an SPR'ish setup, I'd recommend a low powered variable like a 1-4/6 or like a 2.5-10 from Nightforce, Vortex, IOR, Bushnell etc. We have various options in that price range and can help you find exactly what you're looking for and we can meet or beat almost anybody's prices. I'd also recommend a trigger upgrade from Geissele, CMC, Timney, ALG for the the type of shooting you specified.

Let me know if we can help you,

                    Thanks for the replies above.

I live in the West LA area, so finding a range with 1000 yards is not easy, if even possible within easy driving distance. Angeles Shooting Range seems to be the only outdoor place near me, and they go only to 600 yards, at a considerable incline from the shooting benches.

That reticle is very similar to the EBR-2 MRAD reticle in the Vortex Razor HD, actually.

I like the Vortex reticle for several reasons, including the open bullseye feature. I've run into issues shooting a 4x Leupold and a 9x Zeiss where the crosshairs obscure the quarter-sized coin I was shooting at 100 yards.

I paid $1700 for a scope I believe has the particular mix of features for me (FFP; reticle design; magnification; durability; zero stop; quality glass; and best warranty policy anywhere, to name a few) and allows me to migrate to a precision bolt rifle in the future.

Too late to reply on the comments, since OP already bought the scope. Would the OP care to share the specs of his rifle so we know what it's going on?

Dave, What are the specs of your precision AR?

A 308 and up, or a 5.56/.223 round with 62+ grains? (My rifle is 1/7 twist, so I believe it can handle such rounds but I'd need to 2x check, obvi).
Thanks again for the good thoughts.
Ya, please be specific about your AR specs! 1/7 twist will handle heavy grain bullets, but it also depends on the barrel you have - it is just another 16" factory production, or a custom barrel, or something made for that sort of precision. All depends (not just the length and twist).

P.S: I just got a 4X12 - 40 Nikon P-223 (good enough for my Spikes Tactical production rifle).

My DDM4v7 is a factory rifle, except for the Geissele trigger I installed. Thus, it has a 16'', 1/7 cold-hammer forged, chrome-lined, free-floating barrel. With the Geissele trigger, I can hit 2'' groups at 200 yards with a 4x Leupold using only a bipod on a bench. (The precision-limiting factor is still me, not the rifle.)

I'd like to get sub-MOA groups out to 400 yards, and to be able to nail a 12-inch target at 600. But I realize that the limitations of the barrel length and bullet weight may put this last goal somewhat beyond the scope of this rifle. (No pun intended.)

However, to reiterate my original post, part of my goal was to find a scope that I can migrate to a true precision rifle in the near future.

Question: At Angeles Shooting Range, here in the LA area, the 200-600 yard targets are at an increasing uphill incline. Is there a 200+ range in SoCal with a relatively level field?

                            Thanks again.

I use a NF NXS 8-32X on my AR platform long range rifle. If I was planning on shooting it at a mile or more, I'd go with a 5.5-22X though.
