Primary Arms MD-06: Is this normal?

I got in on the July 4th sale at AIM on these and scored one for $50. It arrived today and immediately I noticed this:

The front element is in there crooked.

Anyone else get theirs and/or have similar problem? Should I get ahold of AIM or Primary?

The description on their web sight states the front lens is angled to prevent glare.

Hah yep sure enough. Guess I just didn't expect it to be angled so steeply. It really does look awkward.

        Thanks guys.

Mine was angled a bit more than my older one as well.
my older one seemed to have a vertical tilt and the one I received during the July 4th sale was angled side to side.

And mine is angled at about the 2oclock position, with maybe 1/16" difference in depth from the front (7oclock)

Dimitri, if that's to be expected then yeah I think everything is ok. The dot itself looks good to go...

I too purchased the MD-06 during the Holiday weekend from Aimsurplus and it is a great little red dot. My problem is with the base mount it comes with. It doesn't allow itself to get tightened enough to have a good fit on other rails like the flat top on the Sig 522. It is the same issue on the mount as described by this guy in another forum:

It may need half or a millimeter shed from the base so the screw can be tightened more just like on the TRS-25 I have also. I'd like to contact Aimsurplus for possible replacement, but I don't know if all of the base mounts are made the same. I know how to fix it but I don't want to file a brand new item I just bought.

I haven't seen a lot of complaints about it, just one on the link I provided so maybe there are mounts that are out of spec?

Hi Dimitri, I was able to measure the MD-06 base with a caliper. I also included the measurement of my TRS-25 because that fits well on the Sig 522. I tightened the base screws to their maximum before I took the measurements.

First pic is the measurement on the inner rail of the Sig 522 which reads 16.55mm:

Next measured is the PA MD-06 edges that would have contact with that inner rail measured above:

For comparison, here's the measurement from TRS-25:

At max tightening the TRS-25 can go down to 16.33mm so it can be adjusted to fit the 16.55mm rail of the Sig. The MD-06 base can only be tightened down to 17.29mm and that explains why it is loose.

I think you will be able to help me if you can tell me that you have a MD-06 base mount that can be tightened to 16.33mm or if they are all made the same and the one I bought is just normal. If that's normal then I'll just have to file the base myself to make it fit. My hesitation is that I haven't tested it at the range, so if there's something wrong with the product, how can I return/exchange it when I have already altered the mount to get it to hold on to the rail.

                    Thanks.

Heh.. I dropped mine about 5ft onto my wood floor this morning and thought for sure I had destroyed it. Was mocking it up on my Zastava M92 (not in CA) and tested it with double-sided tape on the yet-to-be-attached Stormwerkz rail. Tape came loose and off it went.

Good to know that's how it's designed, and that the sight survived the fall. Still works fine, floor did not even give the sight a blemish.

I've had other dot sights with a slight angle on the front lens, this is the most severe angle I've seen on one.

Mine also has the loose base. Just have to remove the sliding clamp and take a file to its inside stop surface, to allow it to slide further into the base. It will then tighten down fine.

We have some extra mounts on the way. The clamp is a out of spec. A easy fix is to file a little material off the flat part of the clamp. See arrow. Do that and if still want a new base shoot me a email and I will get you one when they arrive.

Marsh1 and Primary Arms is a stand up group. I received my new qd mount and md-06l and had issues with the mount. I emailed Mr Lerner, he replied within an hour on Friday night, and is sending a replacement out Monday. Thanks, PA!

I just got the replacement mount today. It's great, no wobbling and thanks again Mr. Lerner.
