    Primary Arms Scope

I'm a weekend shooter, and shoot only to about 200 yards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Get this now?

    Or wait for this?

Speaking only for me, I'm waiting for the 1-6x to come in.

Wait for the 1-6X.. The extra magnification is nice to have even at 100. I have the Gen 1 and it's great. I'm jealous about all the extra features on this new Gen.. I only got mines 3-4 months ago..

im waiting for the 1-6X. it is nice to have the adjustability. if you run the 4X it will be great at mid range. but you will have trouble for close range.

at the very best you will have to practice with the two eye open method using it as a red dot.

It has a top rail so you can add reflex sight.

What rifle are you shooting OP? For me, the rifle is really going to dictate what optic I use. If it's an AR at no more than 200 yards then a 4x scope will be plenty. If it's a bolt gun or you would like to shoot beyond 200 yards, the 4x scope will still work but the 1-6x will give you more options as the range increases.

This is just my opinion, but variable zoom scopes are great, but should really only be used on rifles intended for purely stationary use. A fixed zoom 4x scope is intended as a combat optic.

+1 on this advice. I have their 1-6 and really, really like it. Hits on steel plates out to 500m is boringly easy with both a .308 and 5.56 AR.

Having the ability to dial down the magnification for close in work is very helpful and the reticle design works well for CQB at 1X. Yes, you can mount a reflex on top of the 4X version but that's a bit high up and clunky for my tastes.

Personally, I'm waiting on the 4-14 with ACSS reticle for one of my .308 AR's and will move the 1-6 to a 5.56 version.

This is how I run my reflex sight with the 1-6X so I can maintain a constant cheek weld.. Scope just stays at 6X.

Q: If you did not have the reflex sights.. you would you use the 1x-6x vari on the scope? Or just stay with 6x fixed?

I have the 1-6x and My only gripe is the size of the reticle for the BDC and the weak turret clicks. I actually like the illuminated portion and sight picture with both eyes open when it is on 1x, it kind of acts like a cheap man's red dot; if only it could get brighter.

Please define size of reticle for BDC and weak turret clicks.

Too big or too small, and at what mag? Weak turret clicks means mushy, not positive clicks, or just that the clicks are too small of an increment, or what?

As for being brighter, are you using it illuminated in full daylight? Is that really necessary?

If I remember correctly, the BDC and finer aspects of the reticle are only meant to be used at 6x. They work well as we were hitting the 400yard hanging steel pretty regularly with super cheap ammo and a 14.5" barrel. I feel the reticle could use a full field crosshair and a little more bold in some areas.

The turrets are definitely mushy, but I dont foresee the need to ever use them as the BDC reticle goes out plenty far for this rifle.

I think if the ring that illuminates on this scope would be brighter, it would work as a nice red dot/reflex option in daylight. Not that its totally necessary, but like i stated above, the lines are pretty thin to quickly acquire a target.

                            Hm...do you have the gen1 5.56?

Maybe Dmitri can chime in on brightness of the new version vs the old?

I'm going to pick up the 4-14 FFP, but otherwise am waiting for the 1-6 FFP 5.56 version he mentioned was in the works.

Gen 2 is much brighter thicker crosshair and the clicks are solid. Go under the Primaryarms youtube channel" closer look of gen2 1-6x acss"
