    MOA/MOA FFP Scope

I'm looking for a scope to replace the Nikon ProStaff that came with my Savage Trophy Hunter XP. The Nikon is nice but I want something a bit more than a 3-9.

After a lot of reading and checking out information I have decided I want a FFP scope with MOA reticule and knobs. Something variable along the lines of 3-12 or 4-14, I'm not looking to go in to the higher magnifications like the 24x etc.

I've only found two that seem to fit, the PA FFP scope and a Vortex. I'm guessing there has to be more out there, I'd be a bit surprised if there is not. But since I can't seem to find anything....

    Nightforce F1

May be overkill for your application...but it fits your requirements.

You could always order something from us optics...

The 4-16x50 vortex viper PST always gets a lot of complaints about the image quality when people compare it to the 6-24 model. I have the 6-24(and it's great), but if the frequent comments about the 4-16 model by comparison are true, it's not something I'd consider due to the cost. If you have a chance to look through the 4-16 yourself in advance maybe that would be fine.

edit: Isn't the PA 4-14 FFP model mil/mil?

If you were willing to step up the magnification, there's a few out there, but other than ordering something custom from USO, the Nightforce that dskit mentioned, or the vortex, there really aren't many. March has a 3-24-42 FFP with MOA turrets and some different reticle options. Other than that.. counter sniper(lol)?

edit again: IOR valdada has an moa/moa ffp 3.5-18x50. Steiner might have something as well.

Damn! You're right! For some reason I thought it was moa/moa.
I decided on moa mainly because either one is going to be something I have to learn but the moa seems like the math is less complicated. I'm actually better at math then I like to admit I just don't like math at all.

Sort of, it's going on the Trophy Hunter XP but I want it to be more of an all-around rifle rather than a dedicated hunting rifle. That's why I'm not really looking at the higher mag/larger objective scopes, I want to retain some degree of 'light and portable'.

Once I get this rifle sorted out I'm probably going to sell my 10FCP-K. I just don't see myself sitting at a bench doing all that is necessary to get precision groups out of it, a butterfly will go by and I'll get distracted. In a SHTF scenario that beast would be more of a static weapons emplacement then a rifle.

The newer viper pst 2.5-10x32 is ffp and has an moa reticle option. All the reviews I have read say really good glass. Not much different in mag range then a 3-9 though.

That line is sig-worthy...and I don't see the problem with a static weapons emplacement if you are bugging-in in a rural location.

That said, with the PA FFP scope coming out soon (ACSS Reticle), you won't need to do math 99% of the time anyway, so no reason not to buy it because of mils. I was in the same boat before Dmitri convinced me...

Haven't seen one but, they do get good reviews. I had a 4-16 PST and would pass on it. It's not bad but there are better options. Don't get too caught up in the math. Being FFP you simply shoot, check impact, measure with reticle and adjust as needed, then shoot again. As long as the knobs and reticle match you are set. You may find more FFP options in mil/mil, the Bushnell 3-12 comes to mind as well as the Weaver 3-15. If you do have the $$, the NF F1 is a no brainer.

                      How about Redfield's Revolution 4-12x40? I've got their 3-9x40 on a Rem 700 and it's pretty nice.

EDIT: Never mind, I just saw the FFP specification. Sorry.

If you wait for the PA 4-14 FFP with ACSS reticle you don't need to do math. Sight it in per the instructions and hits out to 1000 yards are easy using only the reticle. I reliably hit put to 600 with their 1-6 with same reticle.

Wanting ffp and moa limits the availability a bit in the lower priced optics. But I really like the vortex hs lr with the xlr reticle. It meets all your requirements and it has an above average reticle

As someone already stated, no math needed with FFP. Food for thought, if the folks you shoot with primarily shoot MIL/MIL, might be a good idea to go with that as well as they will be giving you corrections in MIL. and visa versa.
You are on the right track getting matching reticle and turrets.
4-14 is a great MAG range, however, keep in mind, 20x mag is nice to have when dialing up to spot hits after a string.

                              Is price an option?
