The NF NXS 1-4x are very good and even thought you cannot see the reticle for day use they are very fast. They are a scope that I highly recommend especilay with the 0-Stop turret!

    NF 1-4x24mm

    NF 1-4x 0-Stop turret.

I also added a photo of the NEW ELCAN DR on the fist page.

The S&B Short Dot LE is freaking awesome! I agree with CSG that the SPF model is the way to go. If money were no object I'd get one for an SPR or recce build. Haven't tried the Elcan Spectre DR so can't say.

Why not just use an Eotech and 4xmag in flip mount.

        Or

        Acog 4x or 6x and a 1 o'clock rail mount with a T1

2.5 is too much power for shooting heads-up.
10 is WAY more power than you need to reach out to 600yds.
            Go for the 1-4.

Its coming today -- 'Out for delivery!' I opted for the NF NXS 1-4x as suggested. I also did some research on my own and found that the NF NXS 1-4x gets a lot of very good reviews. I think this is the most expensive item Ive ever bought on-line. Thanks again for the input, Ive been commiserating over the optics for several months.

When you dial back down to your zero, it stops.
This is very useful if you are dialing elevation for each distance you shoot at vs. just holding over.
It also eliminates "getting lost on the knob" (forgetting how many turns up you are while re-setting to zero).
In the dark, you can't see the numbers to know where zero is, but with a zero stop, you just dial down until it stops.

Yep when you go back to 0 the turret will stop.

that one review on arfcom that lauds the s&b suggests that the s&b is better illuminated... how noticeable is that difference?

Nightforce illumination is only for use AT NIGHT.
It's adjustable only by removing the battery to access the adjustment.
The external control is on/off only and they recommend adjusting the illumination level in total darkness so it's not too bright.

The Nightfroce is not setup for daytime illumination. The S&B to me is not the best either the SHOT DOT’s glass has a blue tent to it. The MeOpta K-Dot is brighter to me. The ELCAN Specter DR has the best Illumination to me.

The ELCAN has a very bright dot:

The ELCAN can fully the reticle
