Need help picking a scope DPMS 308 20"

I just purchased a DPMS 308 20" stainless barrel. I am looking to get the right scope so that I can learn how to long distance shoot. My budget for the scope is 500 to 1000 total. I have the notion to use this rifle in the long term for boar and maybe dear hunting. But want to get better and really know my rifle first. your kind advice is greatly appreciated!

I have been looking at these vortex scopes at Bass Pro Shops. They seem pretty nice. I have some nikon camera gear also so i know what kind of high quality optics they make! So hard to choose! Would you recommend to buy from Amazon? or should I buy from a store where they could mount it for me? Also can you recommend a mounting system for me?

Take a look at the Bushnell 3-12X44 FFP with G2 reticle. IMHO, this is the best long range reticle available in a sub $1000 scope.

(308 AR's typically don't need a forward offset mount like the AR-15 does. The longer receiver on the 308 gives you enough room to move the optic forward for proper eye relief)

I would also recommend the Nikon M308. You should be able to mount that scope up yourself. There are many scope mounting videos on youtube and write-ups out there. It really is not that difficult. I would check out the Nikon M223 and Burris PEPR mounts. They are tough mounts that are designed for use on the AR platform.
