Night force and USO are probably as durable as they get.
Don't think that means you can throw it out of your truck on the free way and still have an absolute zero. I'm sure both will get jared some how. But those will probably be the toughest.Comment

I think they are just as good as they use to be but I think that's just it Leo was a leader for so long I think they gave up and instead of keeping ahead of the game just say back and let more modern optics pave the lead and pass them by.
I remember that was my dream scope then NF took the stage and I've long forgotten the MK4sComment

Well Russ, they went threw a long time of not listening to anyone. Now leupold has stepped up their game. Id pick a Mark6 over ALOT of scopes. If I was building a AR10, my 1st and only choice would a mark 6. The glass is fantastic and scope is awesome. Very light too.Comment

thanks all for an excellent thread!
besides durability, how about optical performance?
I've been looking for a nice scope, but have not yet decided on one. Optical performance, for me, is also a huge deciding factor.
You might have seen some photos that I posted in Handgun and Shotgun sections. Been a photographer for more than 10 years (was a pro for a few years, now I only take photos for pleasure), I only use "L" lenses on Canon's. The images taken with L ones have much better color and they're sharper. But if I have the money (and if I continue being a pro photographer), I would have bought either a Leica and/or a Hasselblad. I've used a Leica R8 and a Hassy 500 (from rental), and the optical performance from these Germany companies are beyond excellent.
As a result of my experience with them, I thought about getting either Zeiss (who made the lenses for Hassy) or Leica, however, I haven't found one from either that have a range of more than 1,000 yards.
I was looking at some S&B, due to them being German. S&B's are designed to be used during twilight (a time that was only legal to hunt in Germany).
I've had no opportunities of looking through scopes from these companies (S&B, NF, USO). Can anyone share their experiences on optical performance?
thanks!Comment

S&B will be the top in optical performance among those 3, followed by USO and then Nightforce.
Nightforce will be the most mechanically reliable followed by S&B and then USO.
USO will be the strongest followed by nightforce and S&B.
Nightforce will be the most durable, followed by USO and then S&B.
USO has the best features followed by S&B and then Nightforce.
USO has the best service turnaround, followed by Nightforce and then S&B.Last edited by ar15barrels; 12-09-2013, 11:34 AM.Randall Rausch
