    Spotting scope on the way

Well after tons of research, and seeing that even on a 100yard rifle range the need for a spotting scope, I finally took the plunge. I went out trying to zero in my new LWRC SPR 14.7" rifle with the EOtech EXPS3-0 and a EOtech G33 magnifier. I got it zeroed in at 25 yards after a big ol headache with the bolt catch release not releasing the BCG. Took a lot of my range time to keep messing with it. Come to find out it was my magazine. It is a brand new Pmag and for some reason it kept jamming up the bolt release. It was really weird and I have never seen that before. Anyways, I got it pretty much zero'd in and decided to move over to the 100yard range. I could not see my shots even with a shoot n c through the magnifier. There were quite a few people there so I could not keep calling a seize fire every 3 rounds I fired. I eventually got it on target but still not dialed in how I would like. Plus now that I am reloading, it would be really nice for load testing and ladder testing.

I didn't want to spend $1k on a Kowa just to take to the range. I ended up getting a Konus 7120 based on all of the great reviews I have read. Even on the Jarhead website he compares it to a Kowa and says it is VERY comparable, obviously the Kowa is better but like 4x as much.

It should be here in about a week so we will see what happens. Now I just need a Chrono and I will be good to go.

I have never even looked through a spotting scope so don't know what to expect. The main thing I hoping for is to see my .223 holes at 100yards so I can sight in, see my groups, etc. I can't wait to get it. Ill just reload up a couple of different loads in the mean time. I still have to figure out what is wrong with my Dillon 1050. Ill probably have to tear it apart and clean it.

What kind of problems are you having?

You still may have to use a shotNsee target even with the spotting scope for 223 rounds. Especially if you're using a black target with a solid wood backer board. I've seen guys bring out their own target stands with a big 12" hole cut in the center of the board so they can see light thru the bullet holes.

I prefer the white or yellow background targets with the 1" grid pattern. They seem to show the dark bullet holes better.

I have a 20x60x80 Konus scope and depending on the mirage I can see 6.5MM holes out to 300 yds as long as it's not a black target. But on a very hot day the mirage is so bad it's hard to make out any holes even 30 caliber.

I was thinking about picking that scope up for the same reasons. I've read that the tripod sucks though.

Well it is a new machine. All I have done on it so far is done brass processing. I switched over the toolhead for the actual reloading. For some reason it is making a squeaking noise after the handle is pulled all the way down, and only on the upstroke. It is also sticking on the upstroke towards the bottom. Something is not right. I am wondering if some gunpowder spilled and is clogging it up.

Yeah I have read that. I bought the shoot n c targets and they are on the way. The range I go to it outdoors and the target holders are just two wood pieces with a piece of white backboard material that you just staple or tape your target onto. I should be able to see at 100yards I am hoping.

Yeah I read that too. Honestly, you are just paying for the optics at that price. The stand is just a freebie the way I look at it. I will probably get another one down the road if the included one sucks.

I will try to do an unboxing video and range test video since I havent been able to find one yet on youtube, or anywhere else for that matter. I am not great and will have to figure it out, but something is better than nothing.

I've looked around for better tripods and from what I've been seeing, a good one is going to cost as much as the scope itself.

I did find this on amazon though. http://www.amazon.com/Joby-GorillaPo...I2MWP0ZPEKVXN3

Not sure how good it would work for the scope...

For tripods check out your local camera store or look around at yard sales. A friend picked one up for me at a yard sale for $15. It's been around the block and has some paint chipped off but it's sturdier than most stands on the market today. Look for one that you can push down on the head with your hand and not have the legs bow out. If it holds up to that, it will hold your spotting scope without an issue.

Well it is blue and super and starts with a 10**. I just processed about 5k pieces of brass with that and a Dillon RT1200 trimmer. Havent got to put it to the test of reloading yet because of the problem it seems to have developed. It is hopefully just a matter of tearing it down, cleaning it, and re-oiling it. It is weird because I havent done anything but brass processing on it yet and it is already having problems. I have a Lee Turret sitting right next to it that I use for .40cal.
