These are nice scopes - ProStaff that is; not the Prostate.

My 2 cents, Vortex. I have 4 models and very happy with all. I have the Sparc and Stikefire on my AR's and Viper PST 6-24x50 and Crossfire II on bolt guns. I have had no issues and they have held zero pretty well over time.

I would go with the Leupold, the reticle for the Vortex looks "too busy" in my opinion. Both are good scopes I suppose. FWIW I have the same Leupold with the SPR reticle.

Just purchased a Vortex Viper PST from Opticsplanet using their Calguns discount code. Free shipping, too!

Unless we're talking Leupold Mk8... then Leupold.

Leupold. The Vortex would be better for mid to long. The Leupold is better for close to mid.

I'm in this situation for a bolt .308. I looked at the Vortex and they seem nice, but the Leopold has the name behind it. That PST 6-24x50 seems rather nice.

Bolt 308 with a close range 1.25-4? That's like buying an SUV with tow package to haul groceries. I'd take the Vortex for a 308 bolt gun and go up to a 3-9X minimum.

My pick goes to the Vortex, great optic.

Had one sitting on my RECCE rifle for a year or two until it was replaced with the SWFA 1-6x scope.

If you can afford to spend a little more I would consider the SWFA 1-4x scope over both those options.

Either would have served you well. I am REALLY partial to the Vortex though....I had one and it was much nicer than the Leupold.

                          Super nice rifle, too!

Bushnell Tactical Elite 3.5-21x with G2 reticle. You'll thank me later. Vortex scopes are nice but sometimes need warranty work.

How do you figure? I think you might have that backwards. The leupold is 1.25 and if anything the full reticle is not ideal for close range. The firedot itself is meh. I had a thread going in Centerfire about 1-4's. The vortex is hands down a better setup for CQB / mid. I run one now in mil/mil. Only "con" is illum washes out in direct super bright sun. But you have a non cluttered reticle with clear glass and if hovering over a dark object the illum is back. Also, the PST is a true 1x. 1.25 is... well not. I certainly love the PST 1-4 but if I had to choose again between the two, i wouldn't. I would save up for the SWFA 1-4.
