Nikon Buckmaster vs. Leupold VX-2

Went to Bass Pro tonight and they were pushing the Nikon Buckmaster over the Leupold VX-2

Both scopes 3x9x40

Thoughts/Opinions?

I would take a Leupold over a Nikon just for the name.

Since I will be replacing my cr*ppy Nikko Stirling, and I was looking into both of these, I as well would appreciate peoples feedback as to either.

I'm guessing they were not priced the same and the nikon was about $100 less. I have both but neither has been on a nasty weather hunt with rain and snow for days on end and I haven't done conditions like that in a long time. If they were the same price I would buy the leupold, however if the Nikon was $100 less I would not hesitate to go with it. The Leupold has the lifetime warranty.

I'm guessing you want to use it for hunting.

Nikon has been under $300. at Natchez. I have several Leupold's of various magnification.Buckmaster is the only scope besides Leupold that I can afford, that has great clarity. I have 3

Leupold still has the edge over Nikon but Nikon is still a good scope

The Leupold was $299/$350 and the Buckmaster was $230 with bdc recepticale.

Hunting scope only. Took a chance on the new Remington 783, looks to be better than the 710 and has some good features. It's a .270

Want to get a rangefinder too so the lower price buckmaster is making me reconsider my leupold pick.

Get the Leupold. You will not regret it. That is all I will but on my hunting rifles. They have never let me down in 50 years of hunting all types of weather and places.

Great warrantee American made! I sent one back because I was having trouble getting the elevation I needed, they sent it back with a note saying they upgraded the innards cleaned it regassed it & had it back in 1 wk. I never bought a different brand after.

A year ago or so I had a similar situation. Bass Pro had a Leupold vx-1 3-9x40 for around $200 and a Nikon Prostaff 3.5-12x50 for $250 but it had a rebate. I looked through both and although the Nikon had a bigger objective, the Leupold had about the same picture clarity. I went with the Leupold vx-1 and don't regret it at all. My buddy ended up picking up the Nikon for his 30-06.

And as far as the lifetime warranty goes, both Leupold and Nikon have lifetime warranties.

Buckmaster 4.5-14 side focus is the best bargain in its price range. I run one.

I dont yet own loopy anything. Only loopy product I'd be interested in would be a mk4, and there are better choices for -that- price range....

Cant go wrong with either, but the buckmaster is a solid scope and a good value at that price point. I always recommend them for $2-300 price range.

nikon. leupy vx2's are out dated and overpriced. back then they were good scopes. now there are lots of other mfg that builds the same or better quality optics for the same or less price than any leupy

Nope. Most loopy lower lines are only assembled in the US. They have too much foreign parts in them to qualify as "Made in the USA". There are strict rules for that.

Higher end Leupold still made here. Lower models, nope, not anymore. I forget where the cutoff is, but some Google-Fu will certainly answer that.

I have 2 buckmasters in 3x9x40, I highly recommend these units. For the $2or300 they go for they are top tier. Fyi, my understanding is that nikon makes loopers glass. The difference is the seal and gas. According to several scope savvy guys, the major difference is 25 year vs lifetime warranty. I dont know about you, but at 25 years I will be happy if the scope is still intact. And the $aving$ up front make it worth it. PS. I cant tell the difference at 100yards between the looper and the nikon.
