I have two RX01, on an A2 carry handle (MOA dot) and also another changed to picatinny riser (triangle). Absolutely love them for speed challenge on steel plates.

what about trijicon? same price and no batteries

Have 2 nikon monarch red dots (tube), a vortex razor red dot (holo) and had a trashco accudot (tube)

Starting out, you quickly get used to either, but with both available, I quickly started preferring the holo style.

The nikon are variable dot size, and variable brightness which is nice!!!!!

The vortex razor is a 3 moa dot which is a good size. Big enough/bright enough for daytime, and small enough for accuracy. Brightness adjustable, auto off.

Nikon 1 year? warranty? Vortex lifetime warranty even on red dots and electronic devices...

The nikons are fine. They work well with great features. The vortex is amazing. It's direct competitor is an RMR. Then consider the warranty on the razor, and the warranty on the RMR....

I do prefer the holo style though. It's quicker to aquire, and just seems more natural to me. But thats really a personal preference.

Eotech for me....prefer the view, prefer the look. I have another tube-style red dot on another firearm and wanted something different. Battery not an issue for me. Hell, if a guy was inside my house I wouldn't need a red dot "ON" to take a stance (don't worry, no family here )

There is a simple solution for this... get an Eotech XPS, and then mount an Aimpoint T1 on top of it.

voted holo b/c i prefer them more often, but it depends on what platform its on for me mostly. ak = rds, ar = holo, other platforms vary. if they could fit holo in say a t1 or h1, i'd probably use holo exclusively, but the small package would probably defeat the whole point of going holo anyways where you don't have to line up exactly to see the reticle/dot. from my limited experience, im a tiny bit faster with holo b/c of the larger viewing area (not limited field of view, but getting the optic lined up properly for a shot in something other than a static position)

other than that, the only reason i like holo (eotech in this case) a little bit more is b/c i find it easier to see/use quickly for a close quarter optic while still being able to utilize the small dot for an occasional longer range shot. i prefer magnified optics for longer ranges and can work with a little extra magnification a little easier than i can w/o enough magnification at longer ranges, especially if its something like an acog.

battery life is largely moot for me b/c i probably don't shoot enough to where i need to worry about the battery dying before i perform regular maintenance and check them. do like how a rds can be lighter though and how aimpoint in particular is that much more durable than an eotech - both in the physical structure and internals. i would check an eotech on top of say an ak gas tube every so often whereas i wouldn't worry about an aimpoint.

Army Ranger buddy of mine carried an EOTECH through two tours of Iraq and two tours of Afghanistan. They are all he uses. That being said, I am more of an Aimpoint guy. Had a bad experience with a 512, but would love to play with an XPS.

The venerable James Yeager recommends Aimpoint and claims that Eotech's sucks because they break.

It depends. For close work and fast acquisition I prefer Eotech. For distance within 100 to 200 and for the long haul Aimpoint. More distance a scope.

I suppose if I had two GOOD eyes and kept both of them open, the tube may disappear? I couldn't tell you, functionally blind on the left since birth.

I like to mount the EOTech close to the rear, gives a huge field of view and the reticle looks like it's 50 feet ahead of you.

Recently saw something with EAG Tactical and Pat Rogers was shooting a students AR and the Eotech failed. He basically called Eotechs turds. He made it seems like it was not unusual for Eotechs to fail. Get an Aimpoint.

It's what I figured. I still remember some gun show guy trying to sell me a solid black with red LED Russian sight you were supposed to use with both eyes open. I said, WTF it's PITCH BLACK?!? haha

That's an occluded optic, been arround forever. US forces used em as far back as Vietnam.!
Armson still makes them. Cheap and very reliable.
Certain models can only be used in daylight though.
But yeah, if you only have one functional eye it wont do you much good

I have a EXPS3 and a G33. Great for quick shots on the AR and longer distance with the G33.
