    EOtech vs Aimpoint

Basically tube vs. holo sight. What is your deciding factor. I know Holo have better field of view.. but i keep going back to traditional RDS.

Next gun almost finished.. looking for optic options.

If you are talking FOV with RDS units… you aren’t using them correctly…

My deciding factor is size and weight… which is why I often default to an Aimpoint micro.

Both brands make quality units, both have their own pros and cons, but for me it has nothing to do with tube vs holo…

FOV isn't an issue if you're using them correctly. Keep both eyes open.

This. I've used both and prefer my Aimpoint by far. EO Tech battery life is what ultimately killed it for me. I keep my aimpoint on 24/7/365 and never had to replace the battery (over 2 years now). EO Tech would literally be dead if left on over night.

Also, I prefer the plain dot of the aimpoint but that is personal preference.

I believe newer models of Eotech's have an auto-off feature.

They do. Power on with up button = 8 hour shutoff. Down button = 4 hour shutoff. I bought a 517 in January and have played with it a bunch, it's still on the batteries it shipped with. I'm using an Aimpoint CompM4 now though and decided to sell the EOTech.

Umm, dead? That's the auto shut-off. It's supposed to do that. Sure they don't have the 30,000 hour battery life of an aimpoint, but they do last a pretty long time.

My bad, didn't know the newer models had the auto shutoff. I had one before this. Even then, I'd rather not have to turn it on before being able to use it. I'd rather have all of my gear 100% ready to go at any time.

Also, not sure if battery life got longer on the newer ones, but even with an 8 hour auto shutoff that would've drained a huge portion of the battery in the one I had. Like I said though, newer models may be different. I still vote for the Aimpoint though.

You could also search this topic on google or even this forum and find endless amounts of opinions on EO Tech vs Aimpoint...

Depending on the model, eotech battery life is somewhere between 600-1000 hours depending model and type of batteries you're using. That's plenty for most situations, and it's not as if they take some complicated or lengthy procedure to turn on.

I looked at both and the AimPoint Pro offered the best balance of features for target shooting and hunting out to 200 yards since I wear glasses. If I were a LEO or Mall Ninja I’d probably gone with an EoTech for closer in work. Having spent three years in Afghanistan I can also attest to the durability of the AimPoints that our soldiers used. There were plenty of EoTechs around too but mostly with the Special Forces types.

I tried the micro and didn't like the small field of view... said screw it and bought a pro...LOVE IT! I don't feel like my field of view is restricted anymore... great sight.

The venerable James Yeager recommends Aimpoint and claims that Eotech's sucks because they break.

I have an Aimpoint and 2 Eotechs. I like them both. The oft mentioned 3 year battery life of the Aimpoint is great, but not a big deal unless you are deployed downrange. I think most Eotech owners carry spare batteries.

The Eotech, for me, is better for snap shooting and the Aimpoint is better for slow, deliberate aimed fire.

                              YMMV
