Do not over look the Leupold VX-R 2-7x33. I use this one for coyote hunting. 2 power gives you a great field of view especially on those quick shots. Try not to use to much glass if your hunting with it. Most coyotes and deer I've taken the scope was set at the lowest power. Now ground squirrels at 300 yards needs a different approach.

fire dot?
I had your choice a year ago, I purchased a accupoint3x9 with illuminated dot crosshair, the dot was big while on 9 power on 12" targets at 400 yds it covered about eight inches of the target, so I sold it and got a weaver 3x10 with standard duplex. The fine inner crosshairs did not obstruct view of small targets at 400. The illumination for maybe another 5 minutes of shooting at sun up and sun down is not missed, but I have enjoyed the ability to better see my targets at long ranges. The thicker part of the duplex really helps in low light, I also have a ziess conquest that is on par or slightly better than the weaver grand slam due to better eye relief and slightly beter duplex thickness on outer portion and thinner inner portion for extra long ranges. The new weaver grand slams are 3x12, that with a duplex reticle would be a great set up for you, well under your priceComment

I have to second the 6x from primary arms. I have one on my AR and I put one on my sons Savage Axis. I h e been very happy with the 6x in the field. I have already taken two coyotes with it. One to check the lead dots so I got him on the run at about 40 yards so as you can tell it has a great field of view! The other was at 100 yards checked up. My son hasn't got on any yotes with his yet but did smoke a jack rabbit at about 100 yards. On the range this scope is ridiculous! I watch all these guys turning turrets and messing with ballistic calculators. All I have to do is aim and shoot and I am tearing up steel from 100 out to 600 all day without a single adjustment!! Dial it in at 100 yards and your good to go! The range estimation on the BDC is based on 18" and as Dimitri stated thats the average length, shoulder to hip. I have checked it common dogs and have found that you can get a good idea of how far they are but I have yet to check it with a shot

I am just finishing a 6.8 build. Just waiting on Palmetto's laggin *** to get me my LPK
Here is a pic of my mostly built mock up with my new scope
This rifle will be my go to hog, antelope, deer rifle and intended use is about 50-500yds
the scope is a Trijicon 2.5-10x -56mm accupoint with a green mil-dot reticle.
I got this scope as it has the same sight plane as my other AR's and I use the standard PEPR mount with QR.
The large bell is just a touch heavier than a 40mm objective scope that so many others are using, and gives much more light - which means earlier starts and later ends to the hunting days.
I don't know about you, but dawn and dusk have been my best hunting hours ...
At any rate, the glass is clear, no batteries needed (this makes weight less and no failures)
I got the scope for $799 and change and the mount was only $90
Just another option for ya.
