How accurate are they I have the M38 model and with irons I get about a 7MOA.

    Thanks guys

I know many folks will say NOOOO Blasphemy yada yada

I ran a scout mount on mine with a long eye relief scope.

It was a cheap scope and I was able to manage about 5 MOA at 100 yds if I was really trying. Im not a great shot though.

I cant recall the MFG of the mount but it was not expensive. It replaced the rear leaf sight.

Dont put a red dot on there. Just my opinion but a scope will be much better.

I have been shooting for a long time and can maintain sub moa with in the envelope of the cartridge. I am guessing 3-4 moa with scope mainly due to ammo, trigger and barrel error. I keep thinking red dot mainly because I plan to deer hunt with it. Where I hunt it would 50 yards max. Not sure what to do...

          A "Nagant" is a pistol
But I'm sure your talking about a Mosin Nagant Rifle. I did this to mine. Shot just under 1 MOA with Mexican Match ammo

i put a rail on top my receiver but have yet to buy a pistol scope (long eye relief). I hear its really only good to scope a mosin like that using a pistol scope out to a 100yds. groups about half an inch if your good. anything past 100 yds is just pushing it

You Sir, are not making sense.
If you can shoot a 1/2" group at 100yds, why would anything past that be "pushing it".
1/2" @ 100yds is 2" @ 400yds and 5" @ 1000yds (not counting wind). I shot mine at 500yds all the time. Shooting my Brothers Mauser with Iron sights at steel plates out to 500yds would be "pushing it" then too?

+1 how are going to shoot .5 MOA with 7.62x54 and be pushing it? If you are getting that and I know your not, you should be able to shoot out to about 1200 yards if you know your DOPE.

I bought one of these, you take the rear mount off, it is dovetailed so you are using the dove tail ti secure this mount. A small amount of blue thread lock works great on the keeper screws. I used a long eye relief scope. I put 50 rounds through my mosin after I installed the scope and mount. Never got loose.

Please what ever you do, do not drill and tap a M38.
They are much more rare then a 91/30 or even M44's.

Find a method that is reversible and non damaging.

Take it from an owner of a M38 that really wishes his was not tapped for the ATI rail. Wana trade? hah

See this thread about scoping a Mosin Nagant for some solutions.
