My Leapers, Tasco, Simmons and Bushnell scopes all get the job done on my rimfires. Then again, I'm also not shooting 100+ yards and/or at night, so YMMV.

Optics are an area where you really do get what you pay for. For hunting and competition, I buy the best glass I can afford for the task intended.
That being said, there are many inexpensive scopes that are more than good enough, and many have been mentioned here. There is one scope that has been a favorite of mine for years. I'm not sure if it is made anymore but I've used it for plinking, some hunting, and metallic silhouette with great results - the Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x40mm. Zeros well, repeats well, reasonably clear optics, bright, fast focus, and inexpensive. No Parallax adj., though....
Here, I found it:

If you believe Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 AO scopes are kick butt serious, clear as a bell and nice and sharp then go enjoy yourself. Just dont spend all your EBT on high end optics. Save some for hard liquor and e-smokeBullcrap!
Utter Bullcrap!
I run the Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 AO scope on several 10/22s and they kick serious butt.
Clear as a bell, nice and sharp and over the Thanksgiving weekend I was using one to check the chicken coop up at the in-laws's ranch for coyotes by moonlight.
ETA: And since they're so cheap I pay for them with an EBT card....
