    Scopes for rimfire

    Gents

I'm new to rimfires. I want to get a scope for a 10/22 Take Down. One of my concerns is a scopes ability to zero in at short range (50 yards). I have airsoft guns that can easily hit 50 yards but I always had a difficult time finding scope that could zero in at that range. When buying a scope. How can I determine if a scope can zero in at short range?

    Thanks

Look for one with AO/adjustable objective. Most adjust down into 25~30 yards with some going below that.

The inexpensive scopes like BSA, Tasco, and Simmons' Whitetail clasic 3-9x40 are great for .22LR's. I've got a cheapie second-hand Tasco mounted on my 10/22 and it works like a champ from 7 yards out to past 100.

You really don't need to start spending "serious" money until you go out the farther distances or start shooting stronger stuff like--as just one example--.308 Win.

I use a 30.00 barska I got on amazon. It works great on my 10/22 out to 100 yds.

this is what i put on my 795 with burris rings

but my setup was actually more expensive than the rifle itself!

why do you think it won't zero at 50? i started zero at 25 with my meuller. i think the main issue you'll see are 2 things:

              - cheap scopes don't always hold zero but since it's a .22, it should hold it longer.
              - i cannot remember if the ruger is teh same as the marlin in terms of scope mounts. mine will slide after a few hundred rounds. that is because it's a dovetail rail (if i recall that';s the term?) and i didn't bother putting a way to permanently mount the rings to the mount.

This is the scope that will work best for any rifle within 50-100 yards range. It's only $80 after rebate. The best scope you can buy for the money (Period). Buy it and you can thank me later. I got one and it's the best bang for your buck.

fractured, do you get any slide on your scope mount? if so, how did you prevent it?

                    I have several of these:

Hawke is a global leader in high-quality, great-value sporting optics, including rifle scopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, and more.

I am very happy with these scopes.

for some reason people think buying a cheap scope for $75 bucks is adequate because its only a rimfire rifle.

to each their own, but cheap scopes are just that....

Simmons, Barsa, BSA, NC Star, Tasco, Kmart who knows.... ALL CRAP and purchased on the welfare

In my humble opinion some people (me) buy what they can afford. If I could afford a $400 scope I would buy one, but some of us still have to pay the rent and put food on the table for the family.

All the more reason to not waste your time scraping the bottom of the barrel. There are scopes that are a great value and can be had for $100-$150. Buying one of those once would be better than buying a $50 piece of junk and having to replace it because it either broke or you finally realized it's limitations. It doesn't mean you have to buy a $400 scope or a $1000 scope, just don't buy the junk and act as if people can't explain why it's junk.

+1 on the Nikon P-22. It is a great scope. The parallax will be fixed at 50 yards with that model. If you want something with an adjustable parallax, i would recommend this Bushnell Trophy:

                              734120

This model will have a parallax adjustment down to 10 yards.
