    Scope rings for Winchester 70?

Totally new to scopes and all they demand! Just picked up a Win model 70 in .30-06, and it came with a bushnell scope standard 3x9 1 inch circumference ... Weaver mounts are funky and out of whack and scope is not lining up. Need suggestions for inexpensive rings. Thanks

Your best off getting a picatinny rail from egw or another company and scope rings to mount to that. Seekins and badger are my favorites, but there are many others out there. Pending on what you buy, you may want to bed the picatinny rail and lap the scope rings. You can go to YouTube for videos on how to do it.

Oh, will that make the scope set straighter? Excuse my ignorance! Also I see there are medium and high rings. ???

Seriously, you would mount a Bushnell 3-9 in Badger or Seekins rings? Maybe if you had some lying around.

OP, you can't go wrong with Talley 1pc. Lightweight rings. The ring and base are 1pc, they are used on nearly every custom hunting rifle made, and they're about $45 a set. Assuming your scope is somewhat typical 40mm diameter, you will be GTG with medium rings. If you have any questions, email Talley with your rifle and scope issue and they will get right back to you with the correct model number.

I put them on my Savage 114 and like them. Talley was great getting back to me with regards to the size I needed and offered to send me 2 extended bases if needed to deal with the shorter mounting length on my scope.

Highly recommended. They also look good in my opinion and don't look bulky or tactical on hunting rifle which is a huge plus.

              Price is right too!

Different hieghts for different mounting options. When you mount the rifle to your cheek you want the scope lined up with your eye (not too high or too low). You also want clearance between the Objective bell and Barrel.
                Mediums should work for you

Your stock and cheek weld ideally determine which rings you need.

In practice, you might want your scope mounted lower than you physically can mount it, then you get the lowest rings that will fit and maybe add a pad on your stock to raise your eye up to the scope.

I am in the process of upgrading my scope mount on a sporter.

Since you already had a scope, the question becomes will your existing mounting holes fit your new mount. If your old mount was funky, the answer might be no.

A Winchester 70 is a classy rifle so showing old crooked scope mount holes would suck.

A one piece mount might be big enough to cover everything up but the tactical picatinny rail mounts wouldn't really fit in on a rifle with deep bluing and a nice wood stock.

Luckily there are lots of options for you.

In my case, I have a sporterized Arisaka and I'm replacing old Weaver tilting scope rings. The bluing is beautiful, the barrel was nicely reprofiled with folding sights and it was free floated in a nice wood sporter stock. Luckily the previous scope mount looks like a professionally done job. Unluckily, Arisaka scope mounts are hard to find and all of the ring and base companies try to hide the dimensions of their bases.

In the end, I decided I wanted a nice clean set of blued bases with smooth rings and S&K was the obvious choice. After talking with them, they determined that two Browning High Wall rear scope bases would fit the receiver and I determined that their low rings would lower my scope about 0.015" which should clear everything and work with my cheek weld.

Long story short, it's very hard to choose if you haven't seen what is available so a gunsmith is the most qualified to suggest a scope mount setup.

Thanks guys. Wash, I realize I misspoke regarding the mounts! The mounts are , to my untrained eye, just fine. The base of one weaver ring is weird and the locking lug seems tilted in a funny way. I am just looking at getting some functional rings, and I think I am headed the right direction. Thanks and Cheers
