Need Help Choosing a Scope for My AR

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a scope and mount combo in the $400 (shipped) or less range for my AR-15. It'll primarily be used for punching paper at 50-100 yards.

I have a Burris P.E.P.R. QD mount for my .22 rifle and like it, and it'd leave me with $300 or so for a scope, but I'm open to other mount ideas as well.

I'm eying the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 or 3-9x50,mbut have little experience with scopes to know what's what, so help me out with some suggestions. Please!

I'm shopping for optics for my AR build as well, and right now I'm seriously leaning towards this scope. It seems almost too good at that price. Really, the major thing holding me back is rumors of a similar 5x scope and 'revolutionary' reticle that might be coming any day now or 6 months from now.

Verb, Have you checked out Nikon's M-223 line? Nikon also has an excellent 1 piece AR Mount that will work very well for you. Check out PA for great prices on the M-223.

The newer Sightmark scopes are pretty decent. I'm running one on an SPR build and another on a 308. Both are the 2.5-10X32 Mil Dot. They have exceptionally clear glass, and some of the most positive 1/4 moa clicks I've felt on any scope. Only the center portion of the mil dot reticle gets illuminated on these, just a small dot right in the center. On 2.5X, you can use it almost as well as a red dot sight for close range work. At 10X, the clear glass and fine reticle along with around 130 moa of internal adjustment make it pretty decent for long range shooting also. I routinely use the one on my 308 to dial out from 100 to 1000 yards and everything in between. Tracks perfectly so far, although the round count is still admittedly pretty low at around 300 rounds. It should be noted however, that the 308 kicks like an angry mule. It was repeatedly shaking scope mounts loose for the first 100 rounds or so until I finally lock tighted everything.

The only issue I've had with these scopes is the illumination knob becoming loose (Probably recoil related as well). I ended up taking the internals out of the knob and lock tighting the 4 small screws that secure it to the scope body. Easy fix that took all of about 10 minutes.

That Weaver looks good. My scope on my .22 is a Weaver, and it's been good to me. Just a little concerned with its brightness at that range and size? How would it compare to a 3-9x40?

I can't compare it to the 3-9 x40 because I've never looked through one.

I have the mil-mil version they sell at MidwayUSA. It's on sale for $300 occasionally. At 100 yds. it's fine and does the job well.

I have it on a Remington 700 SPS-V and shot paper targets out to 600yds without a problem. The scope is good enough to get me out to 1000+ yds. I can't complain. It's a good buy for the money.

i just ordered the weaver v3 1-3x20 variable scope from nachezz for like $160 shipped...i didnt read a single bad review of it and its not made in china, made in japan. everyone says they are excellent little scopes for the price.

I have one Weaver 1-3 on a Ruger Charger, one on an AR in a DNZ Freedom Reaper mount, and one in the safe for the next build. The reticle is nice and thin, the glass is clear and the image is bright. Every time I look through it, I feel all smart and stuff for buying them

Heck of a product for the price, and I don't seem to miss the extra 1x of a 1-4.

midwest industries sells an ADM mount and leupold scope combo for a nickel shy of $400.

the scope is fine for what you want to do, but a little underpowered for me, which is why i eventually traded up for more power. but the mount is here to stay.
