Height dimension for iron sights used with optics?

Some rear sights list a height, but give me no clues as to where the height is measured from; bottom to top of sight, from top of dovetail to top of sight, from top of dovetail to bottom of notch? I’m guessing that it would be the second one: from top of dovetail to top of sight?

What i did was to measure the dot's deck hight, then found a set that was a bit taller. Worked well when I had the xd milled for optics.

          Sights are funny....

You need the right size sights based up the distance between the front and rear sight

If you look at a shorty vs a dissapator, the spacing is greater on the dissipater. Pythagorean theorem says the heigths must be different

Picture the barrel as the 3rd side of the triangle. Sights align with the target and the barrel slopes up to offset gravitys pull

Are you running a red dot or something with magnification?

Some have a quick release on the optic or fold to the side option. Some like a flip up iron rear sight with a magnified scope.

Are you trying to co witness a red dot on top of your front sight post? if yes - what red dot and what mounting system?

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
