Height dimension for iron sights used with optics?

Some rear sights list a height, but give me no clues as to where the height is measured from; bottom to top of sight, from top of dovetail to top of sight, from top of dovetail to bottom of notch? I’m guessing that it would be the second one: from top of dovetail to top of sight?
