    Vortex quick release mount

Just picked this up from opticsplanet, http://www.opticsplanet.net/vortex-o...er-mounts.html

I just got it but havent shot with it yet. I did try mounting it on my rail and its pretty nice.

build quality is there probably comparable to larue's as I have theirs too.
Priced at 189, I used the google coupon i got from a deal someone posted on calguns. 25$ for 50$ credit.
so it cost me 164$ vs larue mounts at 195$ plus shipping

Ill be putting it on one of my rifles later and will give and update when I can.
Price is lower than larue's so it will save you some money.
quick release is different but works.

I'd be interested in seeing some repeatability tests. Do the levers lock?

Without discounts they're putting these on the market at a rather high price point considering the following Larue has.

yes the levers lock. You need to push the lock "button" they call it which allows the lever to swing open, if you dont it hits a detent which stops the lever from opening.
They beat larue on this one where no tool is needed to adjust the tension, you just turn the nut on the other side.

I think vortex is having another company make these for them, the paper in the box says adm-mfg.com

Shop American Defense MFG for premium quick-detach optic mounts, fully ambidextrous AR-15 and AR-10 rifles, components and firearm accessories made in the USA.

heres a pic with the locking lever

It is made by American Defense, they just put the Vortex logo on. Solid unit IMO but I don't really take mines off and on.

It is made by American Defense. Vortex OEMs from various mount MFGs. Including Seekins and Warne for their rings...

I still like the LaRue mount better, but with the discounts, you didnt do bad.

Thanks Mark, I was toying the idea of putting the vortex 1-4x scope and mount that on a carbine. Are those scopes in stock or how long out?

I have the 2" offset quick release mount from vortex. I have never used a larue mount but i love my vortex! I have taken it off and on several times to see if it will lock right back where it was.... And it did just that. Everytime i have taken it off and put it back on it groups right at my 100yard zero.

I can't get over what these things cost. I wouldn't think there is any reason for it, it can't cost that much to make. The mark-up has to be huge on things like mounts, iron sights, slings, etc.

You are paying for the cost to develop the product.

QD systems always cost more, too -- i assume it's because of the small moving parts that are fit together tightly and often intricately.

good decision by vortex: ADM gear is trick but also rock solid.

You'd think copying someone else's mount design and using an existing lever design would save you more than $10 though. And you don't even get any Dillo dust.

Not saying this is a bad mount (ADM levers are top notch), or that anything but the levers on the Larue SPR are an original Larue design, but vortex is going to have a tough time selling these unless they can drop the price point/offer something Larue or Bobro doesn't.

I like the Burris mount, I have one, but I love my Larue mount...

I never had a chance to use anything Larue, but I bought a used optic that had one, I was sold on it. I started buying Larue mounts after that, even my bipod uses a Larue mount now.

The Larue tightens to the rail differently, its just solid, and well made.

I cant really fault the Burris at its price point, but the Larue mount is worth the extra coin, especially if you will be constantly removing/attaching the optic.

vortex's MSRP is about a $70 markup from ADM's website prices, but actual retail price appears to be about the same.

ADM and larue mounts go for $40-$50 less than the equivalent bobro model. ADM also has the AD-scout scope model for about $30 less than anything similar from larue -- only the single latch, but it's a rock.
