At 15 yards I'd rather run an Aimpoint...

100-300 yards, irons are fine. 400, it depends on my eyes and lighting conditions. For 500 and beyond, my eyes aren't what they used to be so, optics are required.

I wish I knew. I normally just plink at steel at Angeles now. The only time I've shot for groups in the last 5 years or so has been at 1000 yards (with optics). But, back to plinking, I can normally hit the steel at Angeles out to whatever distance my eyes and lighting conditions will let me see that day.

Sometimes, I like to be a D??K when I'm there and find the guy with his new $3000 dollar tacticool .308 with $2K of optics mounted on top of it and shooting the cheapest ammo he can find. Then, when he shoots at steel and misses, I follow it up with a quick hit on the same steel he was shooting at. After a while, he will always come down to see who's doing it and with what. I just show him an old Mauser, K31 or whatever I'm shooting and tell him it's some old surplus gun I picked up for $150 or $200 and, I can't afford ammo so, I have to reload my own.

I'm far from a great shooter. Quality trigger time is the key. .22lrs are an awsome way to get in lots of cheap practice!

They usually just quiely pack up and leave. I'm not the only one who does this either. I know a couple others who do the same thing.

If you're in the greater LA area, wanna play at Angeles someday? If not, what part of the state are you in?

When ever I see a D**k like that at the range I just laugh and think of Sigmund Freud... I don't care what anyone else uses or is better with because in the end it's all about what works for me as I' am the one that's shooting the weapon /shrug...Use what you find is good for you and don't worry about some guy with a penis complex..
