    VTAC TRX question

I recently picked up a BCM 14.5 midlength with lo pro gas block and an 11" VTAC TRX rail. I got a TROY HK style folding front site for it. It seems like the TRX sits just a hair lower than the upper receiver. Am I going to have a hard time zeroing this thing because of that or will I be able to compensate for it?

You're going to love that rail! I have the 13" on my 14.5" and it allows me to put my hand far forward to control the muzzle. Excellent rail system.

So far it feels great in the hand. I'm planning on taking her out next weekend to shoot. I was planning on this weekend but I got sick.

How does the VTAC TRX stand up to the heat after a few mag dumps?

It gets warm, especially during summer months. If you're going to be bump firing it, I'd suggest a traditional rail with rail panels.

I have a 13" V-Tac rail on my 18" SPR. I like it very much, one of the best thought of rail systems out there and Kyle Lamb (Vikings Tactical) won't allow crap to have his name on it.

Assuming the tube stays on axis with the rest of the receiver, you may need one or two more turns of your front sight to zero, but the difference looks well within what your front sight can adjust for. I don't have as much of a step between my upper rail and tube but yours doesn't look too bad. On my setup I also use a Troy HK style front sight and I have to keep it turned down (up elevation) to get it zeroed but I'm also using a Matech rear sight so the issue may be sight to sight tolerance difference more than the tube. I have noticed that there is a lot of difference between BUIS from brand to brand even when running "F" marked front sight bases. What kind of rear BUIS are you using?

One more thing. It is generally considered bad to "bridge" the optic between the receiver and the tube rail so if you decide to scope your rifle I would suggest a full length rail like the PRI or a mount like the LaRue. Same goes if you want to install a "dot" optic but they don't take up enough real estate for that to be an issue usually.

One trick I read about is when you're installing the tube, use a beefy scope mount like a LaRue and bridge the upper and the handguard with it. Then tighten down the screws on the TRX. That should help align the top rails better.

I haven't had a chance to try this technique yet, but I will on my next TRX installation

This is what I have done, works great as far as aligning the tube although I don't think it will fix the step between the tube and receiver.

My bridge is pretty much exactly like OP's. You're not the only one.

A lot of rails don't line up perfectly... even the DD lite... you're not supposed to span any optics between the two anyhow, so it doesn't really matter.
