    I have an aimpoint pro with Vortex 3x magnifier, a few trijicon reflexes, an ACOG with RMR, and an accupoint 3-9x.

    But I am fascinated with the Leatherwood ART M1000 and M1200. I just ordered the M1200 for $450. I am planning on mounting a Trijicon 7 moa RMR (dual illuminated) for CQB @ Botach for $360.

    The M1200 is supposed to have great range and a nocalc no fuss for reaching out and touching something. Same tech they used in Vietnam so I hear. Bunch of stuff on youtube about the M1000. The M1200 is 6x-24x for ranges between 300 - 1200 meters. Or you can get the M1000, 2.5x-10x for ranges 250-1000 meters. Both come with integrated mount.

    Leatherwood can be preset for 5 separate rifles and can be calibrated for most ammo.

    The RMR would require a mount for an offset or possibly mount on scope (need to check clearances).

      Personally I would go with a 1-4 variable scope. They are practically a red dot and acog all in one package. They have the benefits of both platforms, and none of the negatives.

          Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 can be had for under $500 then another $50-150 depending how you wanna mount it...BAM ur done for half your budget.!!
          I feel the same way. No reason to spend that much money on a scope for an AR unless you're trying to replicate the looks/specs of a particular gun. The only reason I'm getting an RCOM4 ACOG is for that very reason. If not for that, I would have just picked up the Viper. Doesn't get any better than that for the money.

            None of the variable scopes are built like an ACOG in terms of ruggedness and off the top of my head I can't think of any that are powered without the need for batteries

            If you are planning to go the ACOG route, the calguns deal through us is still going on

              According to Trijicon, the Accupoint series TR21/TR24 are built and tested to the same rigorous standards. Accupoints also use the same fiber optic/tritium technology as ACOGs. But the one thing AccuPoints lack is a BDC.

                    The S&B Short Dot is pretty well regarded for its durability & ruggedness. Does require batteries though! Also not priced under $1400!

                    These type of variable scopes are really fantastic, but there are some considerations to keep in mind:
                    * ruggedness
                    * battery life
                    * parallex/eye relief (shooting from unconventional positions, shooting from support side, etc)
                    * other things like compatibility with NV, etc

                    Also, another side note, the variable optics generally do not suffer from the same issues as red dots with regard to folks with astigmatism (or other eye problems) often seeing blurry reticles, comets, streaks, etc.

                      ACOG with BAC (probably TA31) if you're primarily mid range with oddball close quarters shooting or Aimpoint (either PRO or T1) + Magnifier if you're the opposite (primarily close shooting with oddball medium range)

                          Check out Ed's GRSC 1-6x ffp scope, made in Japan with his nice ranging reticle. Price comes in around 1k, plus he's a Californian so that's a nice bonus.
                          This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.
