Question about a scope and base

I picked up a Nikon Buckmaster scope with a mildot. It has 50MOA of internal adjustment. I am putting it on a Savage 10FP in 223. I do not plan on shooting this rifle past 600 yards. My question is should I go with a 20 moa base?

why not. slight overkill, but who cares huh? i did the same with my remmy 700 sps in .223 only had a chance to shoot to 400yards with it. i used a warne base mount, and figured a one piece will hold better than a two piece base. at 600 yards, a 77gr bthp will drop around 102 inches travelling at 2750fps which is about 16moa, so you really don't need it. but again who cares, get the 20moa base.

My only concern is 100 yard performance. Will I be to high to get a good 100 yard zero

i had no issues at all with the ss i bought off you, medium rings, and the warne base. i just put everything together, and bore sighted the old fashion way by taking the bolt out, and looking through the barrel. got on paper the first shot i took. and zeroed in within a few shots. holds really well at 100yards. .223 has no kick to me, and is super easy to shoot and alot of fun to do the 100yard groupings. has great performance for me.

your lucky to shoot the higher grainage bullets. mine can only go to 62gr. i just shoot 55gr sp for now.

The savage is a 1-9 twist. It should stabilize 75g. I have some wolf gold 75 grain I am going to try in it. I have shot 77g with some success (read, no keyholes) from a 1-9 as well.

try out the 69gr hpbt with reduced charges. i know you like to load hot, but it might make the bullet a little speradic

I need to look in my sierra manual because I may just go with the "accurate" load and see what happens. I am going to play with the stock barrel and see if I can run the 77s. I may eventually go with a 1-7 barrel on the bad boy.

.223 bolt is definitely fun, and less expensive to shoot then .308

if you get the 1:7 can you shoot the 90gr hpbt? that'll be sweet for a .223

the bc is crazy high on it, .504

                      That's higher then the 175 SMKs running 2700fps (.496 I believe)

                        nevermind, you need a 1:6.5

But the SS has 100+ MOA internal adjustment. He's worried, and its a valid concern, that with only 25 MOA of up or down adjustment (from center) he won't be able to get a 100 yard zero. Its cutting it close. For 600 yards and under, you won't need a canted base using high BC bullets.

Prc-I have a 12fv in 223 that I shoot 75 grain A-Maxes through. The A Maxes are waaayyy longer than the 77 gr matchking. I push them about 2750-2800 with Varget and they stabilize fine. Remember, its not the weight of the bullet that determines whether or not it will stabilze, but the length and bearing surface. Out of the Savage, they do fine.

just checked out the 90gr ballistics, and it seems from jbm it's effective range is from 100-300yards. but at least the wind won't effect it too much. it would be a great 100-200yard shooter

but he has 50moa internal adjustments, shouldn't that be fine? the most he would be adjusting at 600 or less is like 20moa.
