I have several Nikon scopes and couldnt be more happy with them. Check out the Nikon Monarchs for about $400.

I just ordered a Weaver 40/44 6.5-20x. All the reviews were very positive. $209 delivered.

Nikon M-223 series is your best bang for buck. Leupold is good way to go too.

3.5-10 or 12x mag range oughta do ya OK, maybe go 16x, but try to keep low end around 3.4-4.5 at most for best overall field utility.

Zeiss Conquest 3X9X40, $399 everywhere. Great optics for a reasonable price.

THe best bang for your buck scope by far would be a weaver V-16 4-16x42. I recomend the v-16 over the 24 since you might do some hunting. Get the v24 if you don't plan on hunting as 600 yards is VERY far you will want maximum power without being a dissadvantage while hunting.

If you want some serious precision(sounds like you do) you will either want to get the fine xhair or the target dot. It will be a minor disadvantage in low light hunting in the forest but sounds like you have a hunting rig.

The scope sales for around 300. Its been made for MANY MANY years. It is well known as being durable and has won MANY bench rest competitions in the rimfire world but will have no problem on an centerfire.

You would have to spend more like 500 to get a substantialy better scope. I have owned or used most the major brands 500 or less. The weaver is right there with any of them.

Since it sounds like you will be shooting at many distances the AO will allow you to keep things in crisp focus at all ranges and powers.

It is true that mirage is a factor after 12 x but that is only after the gun is hot or if the sun is on the barrel on a very hot day.For the first and most important shot there will be no mirage.

after 10x you got to get some sort of AO or SF or the image will become blurry aswell as affect your accuracy at any distance that is not 100 yards.
