IMHO, 6 - 24x will make shooting 100 and 200 yds seem like shooting 3 yds and 7 yds using a handgun. Too easy and you can't miss (once you zero in). Again, depends on your range goals. Something with a 3 - 9x will be more than enough, assuming you want some level of difficulty in shooting 100 and 200 yds. 24x will make it a cakewalk, but that could be fun as well. Again, depends on your goals.

Lol I want to do long range to but I don't know where I could in the bay area. Richmond rod and gun club is less then 5 mins from my house.

You do know that you need to have an RO present to shoot at the 200y range even as a member, right?

Still, a 6-24 is way overkill.. Better look for a 3-9 or maybe 4-12.

A big power scope is good if you want to make one very very tiny 5-shot group hole at a 100 yds.

No... I just put that on there for the picture. That scope is for my little brother airgun

A 9x scope will be more than enough to use the potential of his AR and ammunition.

I can shoot ~0.5 MOA groups with my ARs @100 with my 1-4 and 1-6 scopes and that's about as much as I'd expect out of my gun/ammo combination. Putting a 24x scope on there isn't going to help me much.

There's very often some magical properties bestowed on high powered scopes, the higher the magnification the better you'll shoot. Lower magnification but clearer glass might actually be better in many cases. Higher magnification will enhance the mirage and also make the movement on the target more visible, which might make it harder for some people to pull the trigger smoothly.

Wow!! I just bought this scope but I didn't notice it was over 15in long. 16in with the lens cover I'm putting on. My ar is going to look weird. I'll post pictures up next week when I get it.
