Scope for 10/22 Target / Range Use

So the wife has recently informed me that she's eventually like to get a scope for her 10/22. She's strictly a target / range shooter (no hunting) and will be shooting from a bench (mostly) at a range that has rifle positions from 50 to 200 yards.

I've never shopped for a rimfire scope, so once again I'm just starting to dig around on this. I would think that a fixed 4 power might be adequate, but then again having a 3 to 9 power variable might be nice if she wanted more magnification at the longer ranges. Ideas?

Her rifle included an accessory rail and installation screws... Wondering if these are adequate? Or if I'd be better off taking it to my smith?

Budget rules... She doesn't want to spend a whole bunch on something she'll use occasionally. It's all about mastering the iron sights for her, at the moment.

The stock mount works perfectly fine. Check Turners black friday ad, they have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 for $99.

I have a fixed 10x Super Sniper on mine, its great as the parallax adjustments goes from 10 meters on out so its possible to get everything nice and crispy up close and personal and further out. $300 from SWFA

ive shot someones target 10/22 it has a barska sweet 22, pretty damn nice out to 100 yards...

I believe the Sweet 22 is made by BSA, not Barska. I would avoid products from either manufacturer.

$99 is a good deal for the Nikon Prostaff

I use a Bushnell Tactical and a Vortex. Both have worked very well for what they are for.

I have the Mueller APV Rifle Scope 4.5-14x 40mm Adjustable Objective. When I bought my 10/22 I did a lot of research (here and at Rim Fire Central) and found that the APV was a popular choice. I have since bought one and I can't say enough good things about it. I have it mounted with Burris rings and Butler Creek caps.

The Barska or BSA would be your low end scope, for a 10/22 they should be fine. But get a scope that you can move up for a nicer rifle. A Bushnell 3200 series would be a nice scope. Remember if you buy a nicer scope later the cheap scope will be collecting dust in the closet, so you gotta figuer that into the price of purchase for the long run !!!

+1 Mine has been flawless. My gun isn't babied either. Its passed around by friends, the kids use it, it has been dropped and bounced around and retains zero.

On impulse today I bought a Barska fixed 4 power x32 with illumination. It was at big 5 with rings and caps for $32.99.

I bought it on a lark because hey, it was only $30, how bad could it be. I was pretty impressed. I only shot paper with it, and only at 25 yds, but it was very clear, and much much more than I expected out of a $30 scope.

At that price, I was expecting trash that wouldn't hurt to throw away if it didn't work. I wasn't even sure I wanted a scope on this particular rifle, so I didn't want to spend $100-$200 bucks on a beginner level scope if I wanted to stick to iron sights. (Marlin 981T)

Avoid rimfire scopes. Get a 1" scope for sure. I bought a Leapers 3-9x40 with mildots for 69.99 from opticsplanet.com an never looked back. Mildots work great for the .22lr from 25-100yards. G-luck!!

My wife has a Leupold VXII 4-12X40 AO on her Target 10/22. Sweet set up.

Nice Weaver V16 4-16x on the wife's 10/22. She loves it for shooting steel plates and with her blonde pony tail beating the tactibilly's on the dueling tree.
