    Need a scope for .308 that's <$150

Got the wife to agree to let me get my Remington 700 LTR .308 around Christmas time. Won't be able to use it this deer season unfortunately, but it'll give me plenty of time to zero it in for next season. So, on that note, I need a good scope for less than $150. nothing super fancy, just something that will stay zeroed on a .308 (i'm adding a muzzle brake to reduce recoil and help eliminate this problem) and has a standard duplex or mil-dot reticle with range finder (maybe illumination, maybe not, not sure how much it actually helps) and variable magnification. I'm thinking Bushnell, but i'd like the opinions of my fellow calgunners since i have some time to shop around and see what i like. Thanks in advance everyone....

to help clear things up, this isn't going to be just a hunting rifle. I want to do some long range shooting too. Eventually I'll slap something like a Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 DOA 600, or a Leupold VX-7L 4.5-18x56 Long Range on it, but for now i just want to be able to see things out a few hundred yards and practice from there. thanks

If you're going to spend $150 or so for the brake (threading, etc), why not just spend $300 on the scope and not worry about it.

            Its fixed.

For $150 you're not going to get anything that will work reliably under field conditions if you're going to be twisting knobs and doing any long range work. The Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 mildot is one of the best options for you, but its more than you want to spend. The limited internal elevation adjustment will take you to 800 yards or so without a sloped base.

hmmmm.....well i'm thinking mostly deer hunting ranges (<200yds) so i'm sure it will open up my options a little. If i want to get into the 800+ yrd range i'll definitely spend the money on a good scope, but right now i'm trying to keep it in budget. I'm thinking of this scope which i've seen on ebay for $80...any thoughts?

I had one on an airgun and it was a great scope for the money.

Get a better scope and you won't need a follow up shot!

Too bad you can't stretch to at least a Super Sniper 10X. They sell used for under $300 on Ebay. Seen 'em go for $250. It's a helluva value.

For deer hunting at under 200 yards, a fixed 10x is the last thing you want. That bushnell looks OK, but I would be cautious. You get what you pay for.

If they still have it, Natchez was closing out Nitrex scopes.

The TR-2 line is essentially a re-badged Weaver Super Slam. They are made at LOW in Japan and the glass is nice. The turrets are pretty cool too.

I would look at the TR-2 2-10x42 with plex reticle. I think it's about $150 after rebate.

I bought a TR-2 3-15x42 with the EBX reticle and side focus paralax and I'm starting to think I should have saved the $90 and gone for the 2-10x42 with the plex. I might buy one for a rifle to be named later if there are any left.

Checkout Vortex and Redfeild, I love them for budget scopes.

I have a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 cost me $200, same thing from Redfeild is about $150.
