    Scope recommendations?

New rifle, Savage 11, accutrigger, accustock, .308

Won't have iron sights for a while.

I know zero about scopes/rings/mounts. Can someone make some recommendations?

    1. I'm a cheap bastard. Bang-for-buck value is a huge consideration.

    2. I assume mildot reticle?

    3. Bells and whistles are not desired. In other words, I'm not looking for this setup...

What are you planning to use the rifle for?

"Practical Rifle". Punching paper for practice, in hopes it never has to be used for when the brown stuff hits the whirling blades. "Sniper rifle"? Not really. Taking med/long civilian shots? Yeah, OK.

Well, like I said, I'm a cheap SOB. As little as possible.

You know the way a Rock Island 1911 is a helluva deal, a great gun for the $'s? That's what I'm looking for in a scope. The one that all the snobs turn their noses up at, but those who have it snicker and laugh all the way to the bank and do everything with it the snobs can do for 1/2 or 1/3 the $'s.

I would go 6-24x power for target shooting/long range with bolt action rifle...
make sure u get 1" rings, not 30mm rings(high end scope use 30mm rings)

You could pick up a Barska Swat 6-24X44 30mm tube for under $200. I have it on my MK12 and it is a good scope for the money. I also have a Barska Excuvator 6-24X50 1" tube for about $80. I have that on a DPMS 20" varmint setup.

Get weaver bases and rings. Get a Leupold 3X9X40 or a 3.5X10X40 or even a 4X12 or14. Get a used one off e-bay and save. Some other brands would be Burris/weaver/redfield/simmons/some bushnells. I"I" would ne a Trashco scope

You do not need a 6X24 scope on a 308 for most shooting. I shoot my 50bmg's at over 1400 yards with a 5.5X22 scope. You do not want one of these as they cost about 2-3 times what your rifle costs.
