If you are asking me... I just got my Troy VTAC TRX FF Handguard installed earlier this week, so yes now I have the HD7 and 2x-5x magnifier mounted (will post pics later if interested)...

I havent shot with the variable magnifier yet - hope to get to range within next couple/few weeks... but I did use the HD7 with 2x magnifier and posted a brief review (if you call it that) in another thread:

Went to the range a couple night ago - first time with the hd7 and 2x magnifier ... I love the turrets on this thing! Stiff enough not to move by mistake, but convenient for purposeful adjustments. Holds zero - but took me a while to dial it in... I'm waiting for new handguards with more rail space so I can try the variable magnifier.... got Troy TRX on the way (with some other stuff) from architects15 (globeflyer has awesome deals on everything!)

Get the hd7 you won't be dissapointed - great rds for the price.
I like the RDS and both magnifiers, and am not disappointed in the purchase BUT everything else about my AR is streamlined, lightweight and compact... the HD7 and variable magnifier take up quite a bit of space and are a little heavy - but they are quickly detachable and I have Troy rear folding BUIS so I can always swiftly configure to full-on slim, light, compact if needed.

All in all, the Lucid gear is great bang for buck!

while looking for something else, I just came across this review (with vid):

the subsequent youtube vids are good too

Havent found anything yet with the variable magnifier - which is what I was looking for when I found the review(s) above... I'm trying to see mounting configurations on other ARs...

What I've determined with my setup is mounting the magnifier about 1/2" behind the ocular seems to keep things spot on... but when I snug it up close to the sight, it sometimes gets hard to quickly get target acquisition and using the zoom throws off the reticle a bit... I'm sure there are technical terms for what I'm trying to describe - but I'm far form expert so I'm looking for some more experienced reviews and setups out there...

*Edit - while watching the subsequent vids from the one in review above I found one form the shot show with Jason (the owner/creator of the HD7) showing off the RDS with the variable magnifier... he has it set back a bit (maybe not quite 1/2") the way I realized it functions best... so I guess I'm gonna keep it mounted there now.

That setup looks good but I don't think I'm ready to sacrifice my rear BUIS in order to fit a magnifier.

I'd rather run a Aimpoint H-1\T-1 or the Primary Arms MicroDot, save the rail space, and be able to use the Lucid magnifier.

Wish Lucid could incorporate the illumination technology of the HD7 into a smaller form factor.

Really you can shoot pretty far with just the 2x.

Right, run folded rear buis now but in that video clip with Jason, his magnifier is mounted on the rear most point on the upper receiver. You couldn't even mount a buis.

I guess it would come down to the thickness of your buis and if you are aligning at co-witness or 1\3 cowitness.

folded the buis will fit under the variable magnifier... when you flip up the buis, you would flip the magnifier to the side anyway so there is plenty of room... this is what I run... but my only reason for rear buis is to use without rds all together (in the event that it was necessary).

Plus, the mount for the variable magnifier is quick release - on & off in seconds

*Edit - I just looked at the vid again and see what you mean... I dont know why he has it that far back, it's not necessary - the eye relief on mine is fine (much farther forward, but I'll probably move it back a little)... here's a pic (took for another thread, it doesnt have rear buis mounted)

I have one and I like it. It is a good optic at its price point. The owner of the company is responsive and the customer service was excellent. There's nothing junky or cheap about the optic and I especially like the 4 choices of reticles and the included 2x magnifier for >$200. For the vast majority of you BR owners who aren't headed to the 'Stan and just need something nice to hang on your paper punchers, it fits the bill nicely.

^^^ while I agree that it isn't the best option for full on combat, I think it is better than just a nice accessory for a paper puncher (I'd buy a sub $100 RDS for that) -

I feel the HD7 would hold up well in a shtf scenario - such as Katrina type society in the event of a high magnitude earthquake - which IMO is the most likely shtf situation... or if CA pushes people too far into a revolution (j/k on the last one - sorta)

Anyway - the HD7 is hardy enough for moderate duty business (in fact, I think I read that some LE use it)

I too think it is a great product. I think what I was trying to get at is that there seems to be lots of people who think they need a $1000 optic on a $2500 safe queen rifle that will never see any hard use... all of the tricked up never beeen fired AR's for sale on Calguns are a testament to that.

I'd say a basic AR like a Stag coupled with the Lucid HD7 in the hands of someone who actually shoots and trains is far more formidable than the boutique custom ACOG'd AR that lives pristinely in a safe and is only taken out for fondling and a rubdown by its chairborne owner after watching Chuck Norris marathons.

I cant run BUIS with my set up, i have the Eotech 517 with the lucid 2x-5x mag. 1) I dont like to mount my optics on the handguard because there is a little bit of slop on the handguards
                        2) I dont know if its the MBUS's i have or if all back ups are the same size but i have a swing mount and it hits it MBUS as it swings so i have to give the magnifier some space from my MBUS.
                        3) because of the space i have to give the magnifier from the MBUS and the locking mechanism for the magnifier makes it so i have to give a 1 notch space between the eotech and the magnifier even if i mount the eotech on the handguard's rail I STILL dont have enough room to put the MBUS AND the magnifier AND the Eotech. LAME oh well

use a FF tube, no slop whatsoever. I have Troy TRX FF, solid as a rock! HD7 is mounted there and swing mount on receiver rail (handguard is monolithic and rail lines up perfect with receiver rail)... many rear folding BUIS will sit low enough for the 1/3 co-witness height of the ADM mount - I guess you could always get a new one? The Troy sits real low (and no, I'm not a Troy rep )...
