New Strikefire Vortex

I just got my Strikefire Vortex red dot sight in the mail the other day, and finally got to mount it on the rifle today. I've got to say that for the money I am really impressed. I got the bright red dot version, and that dot sure is bright. It's been somewhat cloudy here today so far, but I was just in the backyard when the sun poked out and with the optic on full power the red dot was more than visible. I even had to back down the intensity a couple clicks to make the viewing comfortable, so this should be more than adequate for bright sun shooting. Overall the quality of finish is very nice, and with my MI mount the co-witness is perfect with the iron sights (standard A2 front). Compared to the Aimpoint M3s I've seen and shot, it seems to be just a slight touch heavier (for those odsessed with minor weight differences).

Of course this is just a seeing and touching experience so far, and my first impression of the optic. I will be taking the rifle out Saturday morning, and I'm gonna try to put a couple hundred rounds through her. This will also be the first rounds shot through my first AR build.

That's quite interesting. The only criticism I've heard about the strikefire was the too-dim dot. If that's been resolved, I may have to take another look...

I saw one advertised the other day as "Votex Super Bright." Could find no reviews on it. Guess they learned that multi color dots do not work so good. Pick one color and make it work first.

Interesting. I got the Vortex with the red/green dot. It sits on my TSI .22 upper. I haven't had an issue with the brightness at all, even on a bright day. I actually prefer the green dot over the red.

This one is the "super-bright" red dot, and I've got to say the dot is really bright. Unfortunately weather has not been working with me this week, and it has been raining and snowing off and on. Didn't get to shoot it today Hopefully next weekend I'll get the chance and I'll let you all know how she does.

I love this scope. I have one on my Saiga 7.62 and has been flawless. Best bang for your buck red dot scope.

Purchased the super-bright red dot version from Primary Arms a couple of weeks ago. I've had two range sessions with this scope on my AR. Pretty impressed. The dot is really bright with 11 intensity settings. The dot does not wash out in bright sunlight. I actually used the 3-4 settings with the sun out. The higher settings are too intense for my eyes and starts covering targets out @ 100yds. The power button is still on the left side of the scope, but IMO, this does not present any dangers of an accidental bump. Right underneath the power button there's somewhat of a slight hump that seems to protect it well. Also, it does take 2-3 seconds of direct pushing on the button to power up and power down the scope. Scope holds zero well. Recoil is a non-issue for .223/5.56. Two thumbs up from me....... I'll do a more thorough report with a durability test when time allows.

Finally got to go out and put the first 100 rounds through the rifle yesterday, and she performed perfectly. Went out into the woods with partly cloudy conditions. Through sunglasses I could still see the red dot just fine on only about medium intensity. For the first 100 rounds the rifle appears to be more accurate than I could shoot from a unsupported standing position. Did a quick windage adjustment to get the red dot to line up with the iron sights, and was accurate enough to give me about 5 inch groups at a little over 50 yards. I know that's not a big deal, but for me being only my third time shooting an AR, and only my first time with my own I was pretty happy with it. I'm going to try and get to one of the local desert ranges on Thursday or Friday, so I should be able to use a bench rest and give a better idea of the performance.

Mine came with a thread in 2x magnifier that threads right into the eye piece. Seems to work ok in the house, but I have yet to try it on the range.

the screw in 2x magnifier works well for me at the range. i guess a plus for the screw in is no worries for the dot to be centered when looking through the magnifier
