    Redfield scopes!

    I read that Leupold bought this brand of scopes. Has anyone used this type of scopes. I read in a guns and ammo mag that there inexpensive and pretty good brand. What are your thoughts.

    I would say if Leupold has their hands on them I would assume Redfields would be a bargain for the buck. Unless they are farming them out to China for cheap labor them I would be suspect. Do more research on the web or call Leupold and find out where they are manufacturing them and that will go along way in answering your question.

      I just picked up a Ruger M77 R .308 (tang safety) that came with a 4x12 Redfield scope. I haven't had a chance to test it out on the range yet but when I do I'll post an update.

        Leupold acquired the Redfield brand and some patents a while back. Realizing that they (Leupold) can't sell $1000+ scopes to the bami-buster crowd very easily, they have reintroduced the Redfield brand as a moderate cost line of scopes for the hunting market. The scopes are said to be assembled in OR and are intended to compete with Simmons, BSA, and other low-cost scopes on the market. It will be interesting to see how these new scopes compare to the others in the price range.

            OR = Oregon

            Leupold / Redfield's web site says they are made in Oregon...

              I bought one of the 3-9x40 versions with the Accurange reticle to go on my .450 Bushmaster. Nice clear optics, plenty of consistent eye relief and build quality and finish very nice! It is made on the same equipment in Oregon as all of Leupold scopes and has the same forever guarantee. $159. delivered for this outstanding American made scope-how can it get any better?

                  I don't know about american made but I owned a varminter scope from redfield before they went out of business back in 1999 and a true test of a good scope is being able to use it all day long without eye fatigue on ground squirrels. I enjoy mine, I just hope the new ones are built to the same quality.

                    I finally fired the Redfield 4-12x. I only fired 40 rounds out to 50 yards because it was beginning to rain. Weather was overcast and low light. What can I say, it was clear & accurate. Very easy to zero, only took 5 rounds at 50 yards. I can't wait to push the distance.

                      As far as I know, my Redfield 4-12x was made in Denver, Colorado.

                        I just got to take a look through one of their spotting scopes and it was a real bargain by the looks of it. It was a Rampage 20-60x60 including a see through scope coat (So you don't have to take it off), caps attached by lanyard, Mini tripod, and retractable sunshade. The eye piece has a rotating piece of plastic for eye relief comfort and ability to use better. It was very clear out to a couple hundred yards even through a store window. You can get them on optics planet for around $220 as a package.

                            I wondering if they come with caps to protect the scopes glass? Never owned one my self that's why i'm asking. But i assume they do.

                              Was it something that you could reasonably use to glass for game in open areas such as sage or above the treeline without eye fatigue?
