    ACOG TA31RCO question?????

    All`
I am looking to get this model and want to make sure this is what I am after. So my question is this, I want to be able to aquire my target fast. I would also like to be able to use both eyes and not have to close one. I will be shooting around 25-100 yards. So is this the way to go or is there something else better for what I want to do in the Trijicon series? I would like to hear from you guys that actually own a model in the Trijicon series.

Thanks in advance for your help

You want an ACOG for 25-100ygds? Why not just iron sights or red dot for such a close distance? Have you tried acquiring a 25 yard target with an ACOG vs. Red Dot? Beyond 100 the ACOG is a great sight, that is why it has the BDC hash marks calibrated for 5.56 so you know where to hold at further distances. Try before you buy.

Most of my shooting is in the 25-100 yard range but I will also be shooting beyond that from time to time. Have a cheap red dot now but want something much better. Dont know where I can try before I buy though. I dont know anyone around Sac that has one

The ACOG works really well for the distances you are asking about. Yes, you can use iron sights at these distances also but the ACOG does allow you to acquire a close target very quickly at just about any distance. The proper methods to shoot with an ACOG that is is to be using both eyes open.

Here is a Brownells video about the ACOG

There are some other good videos about the ACOG sights on the GunTalk website but you have to be a member to view them however it might be worth the small fee to check them out.

Here is a link to the Trijicon ACOG brochure.

          Good luck.

Thanks! This is the info I needed to confirm purchasing one of these. I have a good shot with Iron sights alone... I Just want to upgrade and be able to aquire my targets really fast. Also it sounds like it's a great all around scope for what I would use it for.

If you're shooting at 25-100 yards, the ACOG will work just fine.

The better sight for this distance, however, is an un-magnified red dot or holographic one. When it comes to shooting with both eyes open, nothing beats the 1 power sights.

If you want the versatility to accurate engage targets from 25 to 500 or 600, the ACOG (or some other high-quality magnified optic) wins, hands down.

Look @ the Eotech for the shorter distances you speak of. Good quality and half the price. Save your money and put an ACOG on an AR15. Strappin a ACOG to an AK is like puttin a VW engine in a Porshe. LOL!

Or go with the 1.5X Model.

With a little practice, you can shoot your specified distance just fine with an ACOG. You will just have to develop muscle memory to have a consistent cheek weld to compensate for the short ER.

I have a TA31RCO on one of my AR's and yes it's great for distances....My suggestion to you is why not get the TA31RCO and mount a Docter red dot on top...So you have both? Don't get me wrong I have an eotech and love it...but the TA31RCO with docter's sight on it...what else do you need...
