About the Bushnell banners, I own a 3-9x Dusk/Dawn model and I can't vouch for it. It failed to retain zero on a .30-06 bolt action and the repair note mentioned something had shaken loose.

After switching it to an 8mm Mauser, it seems like some part of the internals is now loose again, with the piece partially obstructing the view.

Shipping gets quite expensive after a few repairs.

      Bushnell Banner Dusk/Dawn 3-9x

Mine's on my Ranch Rifle (RAW) with Ruger medium Rings. I should have gotten high rings because the flip covers are just barely touching the heat shield.

Mine's always held zero, somewhat. It is a short-ish barrel, so 50 yards, no problem, 100 yards we get a bigger spread. Of course if you remove them, you'll have to re-zero.
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

I just installed a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 (P/N 67165) on my NRA-edition Mini-14 (using the factory supplied medium-height rings, P/N 5B). Fitment is perfect

I chose this scope based on this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=193473.

It's boresighted and ready for the range (hopefully next week )...

I am no expert but using a scope to line up a shot and setting a crono. out in front of your gun barrel is only asking for the result you got.. You said you aimed high on purpose, and boom. If you have a target out at say 100 yards, scope set to that target, the scope is on a different plane than the barrel. The barrel will be high to begin with as the scope is above the the plane in relation to barrel. In other words the gun is aimed up to meet the plane of the scope. The two planes cross at the point at which you have set your zero at, 100yards, 200yards... what ever... as you get further away the bullet will cross above the plane of the scope and still the further you get it will pass back across the scopes plane of sight...
            Is this making any sense...
Anyway at the distance you had the chrono. use the irons to set up the shot..
If this makes no sense, google bullet drop, or bullet arc. and somewhere there will be a diagram..
or check out this site about half way down the page...

Hope this helps you not blow up the new one....

Cool! But a RAW Mini-14 with a straight stock? That puppy's begging for an A-Team make over!

So what iam hearing is stay away from a Barska. I am also looking for a scope for my AR....Cant use the iron sights because of my old eyes.....cant see anything but a blur....I gues its part of getting older. So What is or if any is the differece between a AR15 scope and a normal rifle scope. I am not looking for that 1000 yrd shot. It would just be nice to be able to see the bulls eye. It would be mounted on a CMMG flat top.

Most scopes that say they are for the AR platform are set up of the 223 round.. They are set up to compensate for the drop in that round.. In other words if you have a scope set up for a standard AR and you put it on an AR in 308 the drop settings will be off because the bullet trajectory between the two rounds is different.
The so called normal scope is not set up for the bullet drop of the 223 round. You will have to find that by trial and error.
