    Diappointment with IOR 1-4X Pitbull

Well, I got tired of waiting for the Trijicon TR24 Accupoint so I decided to take the plunge and purchase an IOR Pitbull. I am mainly an ACOG/Nightforce guy so this was going to be an interesting change.

When I received the Pitbull it was neatly packaged but it was heavy. Approximately 1.5 lbs. The scope initially looked good and the glass is decent but did not seem as clear as the TA31H ACOG. The reticle is not a true horse shoe but was a half circle with a dot beneath it. The illumination is good at night but totally useless in daylight.

There is a parallax adjustment on the eyepiece but when you adjust it to make the reticle clear, you lose some clarity on your target. Could be my eyes but I have not seen that issue with my Nightforce scopes. The eyepiece has a rubber ring around the circumference that assists you with adjusting the parallax and one portion of the rubber was loose. I pulled it up to inspect the underside and it looked like someone had taken a pipe wrench and stripped the metal underneath. I guess the rubber also covers up their assembly marks in addition to facilitating parallax adjustment.

All in all it underwhelmed me to the point where I am sending it back to the seller and sucking up the restocking fee. I can't in good conscious turn around and sell it to anybody else. I guess I'll go back and wait for the TR24.

What did you mount it with?

It looks like most one-piece mounts wouldn't work with it, due to the short exposed tube in the middle and the short spacing. That would leave you stuck with rings, and not all of them would work either.

      1.5 lbs - that's quite a hefty scope...

Pitbull has a non-standard 35mm tube, my understanding is that IOR ships the optic with a set of rings (2 of them).

I was watching this scope with interest as it seemed like a promising optic, however the weight was a concern and for me a bright daytime-visible illuminated reticle is important.

Akula, how bad was the illumination in daylight, could you not see it at all? I ask because I've read some other posts where folks said it was daytime-visible... and also one review with a complaint that they wished the illumination was brighter but didn't articulate how bad they thought it was.

Whew, thanks for the review. I was looking at this optic also and was wondering about the daytime/nighttime illumination and slight weight issue. Leaning much more toward an Acog or Accupoint at this point.

The Pitbull did come with its own rings. The rings are sized low, medium and high and you specify the size rings that you require at the time of purchase. Currently no one to my knowledge makes a QD 35mm mount.

To me, the illuminated dot was useless mid day. You still had the dot appear as a black dot if the illumination was not bright enough to standout. I started picking up the ilumination late afternoon. It is no where as bright as my aimpoint T-1s that for sure. I guess if I had to compare the brightness on the aimpoint T-1 scale (1-12) then max brightness on the Pitbull would be the 6-7 setting on an aimpoint. Great for low light but it won't cut it during bright sunlight.

Ah, great info! Now I can check out my T-1 and get a good feel for the brightness of the Pitbull. Thanks!

Yeah, I forgot about the 35mm tube. That's pretty limiting on mounts and rings, but most mounts wouldn't fit it anyway.

For people like me who need the scope mounted a bit forward, I'd probably have to get lower rings and put it on an extended rail.

We have them in stock and for the most part I like the scope.

                  • The glass is very nice like all IOR scopes. I did not have an issue with the reticle being in focus and the target.
                  • The unit is heavier than I expected.
                  • Even thought it is a 1x / 4x you still have to rotate the power ring like a regular scope.
                  • The turrets are very positive.
                  • The Reticle layout is very nice.

Again over all I like the scope. I prefer the ELCAN Specter DR.

IMO, the Pitbull is an unmitigated POS. For many reasons.

                    Poor glass clarity.
                    Super thin main tube.
                    Silly "too much" illumination.
                    Distortion at the edges.
                    Not a true 1x nor 4x.

                    Over priced.

                    Avoid.
